@richard_crl032 wow, to change a moshimoto thermostat it would cost as good as changing to a full Alu radiator🤣

Hi,

Sorry for not being clear .. I meant if $ to install mishimoto thermostat even if not failing in 2 yrs' time PLUS what you had  spent on hybrid plastic+Al Koyo would nicely get you the full AL koyorad. 🤦‍♂

Cheers.

Would you able to PM name of workshop you using? Wanted to know a few workshop other fellow Subaru using here.

Hi,

No secret on this one ... BMS at AMK Auto point c/o Ah Boy or BKS at Woodsland c/o Ah Keong.

Cheers.

I am like those stupid people who believe AD are the best (same way I was keep believing SP for electricity).

Hi,

No worry ... my grossly non performance modded 4 yrs old 90k km is also signed to 150k km under their 5 for 4 svc package since Apr 2021.

You are not the only stupid one but I do still use BKS and BMS for more complex part fix and alternating svc cycles as I am using Motul 300v which I change every 7.5k km.

Cheers.

A bit context before I rant on today issue
Clocking around 63K KM (never went crossway, purely drove in Singapore mostly city area).

I bought Forester XT in 2016 and been very careful in my driving, every hump I slow down like crawling.
A year + ago my entire a/c system broke down (I think my forester was still under warranty) but it seems they did a quick fix (and I knew there was gas leak because every time after servicing a month later it feel like hot like oven but after servicing every time it seems ok).
6 months ago all of sudden my Vehicle lost power while accelerating, while accelerating I see needle is moving but no power and then all of sudden will shot ahead (like no control). Brought to Subaru they said no problem and reset something (worked ok for 1 week but back to same issue, so I keep driving in D).
Last month got viper indicator start showing no liquid while it was full, it went off automatically few days later.

Brought back for servicing again, told them my front suspension making noise while going over hump although I been careful while going over hump. Also indicated about aircon.

Later received a call about sensor spoiled for viper water, front and back bearing need to be replaced (back one was around 800+ and front was 600+), A/C got gas leak need to replace that, some more issue about aircon also need replacement, bush cracked and need replacement. Grand total for just parts became around 6.5k. I been servicing at Subaru center from day one but seems they keep stalling big issues till warranty expired and now all of sudden I got slapped with 6.5k bill with a tones of things need total replacement or broken down.

I drove my first Mitsubishi Lancer for 9 years and in entire time not a single time that car gave me an issue, only before I got Subaru my radiator cap rubber need replacement (which was like 200-300$).

Just feel shyt about highlighting problem all along while it was still under warranty but was done some quick fix and now all weak things fall apart and need to pay all costing from own pocket.

At time of buy I tried other vehicles of similar type and I choose Subaru because quick pick but seems that been broken for a while and Subaru was not able to fix it.
I will run another few year, before I sell it and go to another brand (if I will buy again).

Hi,

Sorry to hear but aircon system of condensor, cooling coil and even blower, engine radiator and bushings are indeed of poor reliability and needing aftermkt ones to fix in longer term.

Then again, which ride is 350Nm and 242 bhp with AWD at 125k or less which fxt owner enjoys ? There was volvo xc60 at 170k then (just read new hybrid one at 225k 🤦‍♂) or the preFL glc250 that my colleague bought at 225k when I bought my fxt. 😍

Cheers.

Richard

any good for a 55k mileage SJG?

Hi shutterbox,

At 55k and if you hv budget to take care of your ride, getting cvt flushed and replaced vs Subaru's recommended 100k would be nice. Help alleviate expensive cvt failure ...

Else an engine flush at lesser $ in your next svc cycle instead of just the usual drained and topup may also be good to rid much more of the forever used 1+ litre of old eo from day 1.

Even at lesser $, you can change your spark plugs out instead of waiting till 90-100k km per Subaru's recommendation.

Cheers.

Thanks for sharing the cost.

I wonder what the brand of the stock condenser and if it has the same issue in other car make.

Hi Meepok,

Cannot remember the cost for both my leaking stock condensor and still ok coil but cheaper I believd.

Mine are from spk and valeo respectively at my die die must go aircon shop c/o Kim who I hv known for 30 yrs ... old school kungfu and trustworthy type.

At the same time, stock blower fan that rattled loudly was also replaced by simple modded Toyota Altis one by Kim ... drop in replacement after grinding round attachment shaft to required half moon shape to attach blower blades by Kungfu Kim 🤣

Fingercrossed and aircon working fine for last 1.5 yrs and will share further on any failure🤞

Cheers.

Richard

hi,

if you went back to Subaru for servicing ; they will have a log for all the issues you brought up during servicing;

i think its only right that you bring this up to Subaru management and insist that they rectify those issues that were still under warranty.

good luck...

Ty, I am trying to go in depth on the issues.
But it is easy to do patch fix and wait till it is full blown and out of warranty. And as being not able to visually inspect, it is impossible to say that they didn't fixed it (it did worked for a while till next servicing).
My aircon did start giving me problem on-off and I was totally down while still under warranty, not sure what they did but it worked after that (but cooling was only there once driving, once idling or waiting for someone was becoming hotter). Long story short, my side of two blower where giving warm air on FULL aircon with LO temp and both sides were not able to cold car even stopped for like 5-10 min (like waiting for take away).
So now Coils are gone, blowers need replacement, gas leak (and what not).

If full servicing with MI, better have a word with them. They will have the record of your observations on the car since day 1. Try to discuss with them to see whether anything can be done to claim the warranty.

I spoke to the person on desk and according to him warranty was over 1.5 years ago.

Mean I understand if something need to be replaced but the things made me upset was no indication was given in my last servicing. and I never drove a lot because of pandemic only sending kids to school and weekly groceries a few trips here there (never drove in rough terrain but on main roads) and all of sudden a number of things need replacement. It seems I agree replacement quickly, should have taken back and send to someone to test if really needed replacement.

Seems that MI has not fixed the root cause of the problems.

Personally I will go to a Pro-Subaru workshop to get the issues fixed, if MI has already indicated cannot claim under warranty. Very hard to debate with MI, if one is not technically trained.

The cooling coil will leaked without any fix mileage or time. Will aircon will feel weak first and suddenly only blowing hot air. Compressor giving loud screeching noise. This is a common issue for SJ Forester.

As for whether driven a lot or not, actually if a car is driven regularly, the less problems it will have.

I thought wear tear like damage to engine mount or bearing replacement require more usage, does it mean if I will drive less it would break down those part quicker?

Hi,

I also had wiper issue error issue which is a faulty valve .. think sgd120 at BMS AMK.

I have 3x50k km svc package with them and frankly I dun bother to haggle with MI .. if it is out of warranty, I just go to BKS woodlands or BMS AMK unless safety related under recall e.g. broken exhaust hinge.

Warranty period exists for a reason if it fails early which unfortunately the fxt has several that may out of warranty period .. I am just waiting for 4th front bushing change and 3rd bearing change (1st one during warranty) after 90k km 🤣

Cheers.

Thank you, I just hope we have a thread purely for servicing + warranty + common problems.
I have mentality of if going out maybe parts are not genuine or maybe the person don't have grip on specific model. But I guess I need to stop using that mentality and see how other people go fix about it.
I suspect for bearing there could be single bearing making noise and they decided to change all by telling all need change (but again I am presuming as I know nothing about issues, so will get more information while collecting paying and crying after wallet empty already 😱).

There are rubber components which will harden over time if there is no flexing. Wheel bearings if use daily, its like doing cleaning, rather than letting something to grow/rust/oxidizes. Not so technical in this area. I do have periods where i only using the car once per month. In the end, got a lot more problems compared to using the car on a daily basis.
