spawn101 1st Gear May 4, 2019 Share May 4, 2019 Just had my 40k servicing + install STI pink spring + neuto hydrogen on my 3.5 year XT ride. Additional Issues: front lower control arm bushing cracked gear box oil leak aircon leak @ cooling coil Cost me close to $2900 Before this, I was doing my servicing at MI (first 3 free service + 2 yr /4x SPMP) . The last service @MI was last Nov. I was wondering how all these issue were not surfaced out when it was still under warranty Maybe I should have went outside workshop to double check prior to 3 yr warranty period for most parts. Also change my tyres to Michelin Primacy 3 ST today. Tons of damage to my wallet Hopefully no more issues after this ↡ Advertisement

richard_crl032 6th Gear May 5, 2019 Share May 5, 2019 Guys, for wheel alignment adjustment how major is the work involved? I have been letting motor image do my servicing, had signed up for the 2-year one, so prefer to do at motor image. But if simple thing any issue with warranty and reliability with letting 3rd party do it? Any shop to recommend if so? Thanks in advance! This happened when I sent my vehicle for inspection after 2 years. Hi Rach, Nothing major and just loosening and tightening some nuts based on laser based machine readout .. still take 1 30-60 mins. MI cannot detect adjustment to these nuts and zero concern even if anal. Cheers. Richard
spawn101 1st Gear May 6, 2019 Share May 6, 2019 (edited) Where did you change your tyres? Damage? :) I changed at AL tyres in MEGA woodlands. $970 for 4 tyres including realignment. The main motivation I went there because it was near my home so i could just drop the car there and not spend 2hr waiting. I did not scout around for the cheapest or most value for $$$ shop/deals 3.5yr 40k is very low mileage. My XT just over 3yrs last week, already clock more than 90k. Your $2900 is from MI or outside workshop? i went to BMS. i just finished my SPMP 2 year package with subaru. Reason for not going back to MI is the servicing normally take full day and it was very rush for me to collect my car. Plus, when i tried to ask for my servicing records from MI, they refuse to provide me and instead asked me to refer to the hardcopy that they gave during servicing. The reason i was asking was because some of the hardcopy was missing. Never challenged them why they were undetected at last service? All of the 3 issues were symptom free? If symptom free all the more must challenge. Hmm, don't really have solid proof. Even if i complain to MI, they can say that your car was ok during last servicing in Nov 2018. Waste time & effort. Advice for all the bros, when your ride is 2.5 year , with half a year left for warranty, spend $100-$200 go to outside workshop and have the car thoroughly checked. Any issues, take photo etc so that it is solid proof. Icecube187 2nd Gear May 6, 2019 Share May 6, 2019 Seeing all this discussion about brakes.... i have the following issue with my 3yr old totally stock FNA. Need to step on the brake pedal to start the engine. Usually the pedal will easily move 1 or 2" when pressed and then engine will start. A few weeks ago after parking overnight the pedal will be rock solid when pressed. Engine still starts and brakes work normally once the engine is running. Its now slowly getting worse, so that even just park for 2 or 3 hours the pedal will be hard before starting. I think this means that either there is a leak in the vacuum hose from the engine to the brake servo or that the check (non return) valve is faulty and sticking. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same issue and what needed to be done to fix it.? Thanks had the same issue on my 3yr old FNA. Mine from overnight, slowly became worse and will become stiff in 4hrs. Got the brake booster replaced at MI 1 week before warranty ended. Go back to MI if still under warranty. Leave your car overnight, the day before the appointment so that they will know pedal is stiff after parking overnight. If u bring over in the morning, in the evening, they will tell you no problem found. thats what happened to me and i almost lost my temper as had to send in car again to ensure issue fixed before warranty ended. Brake booster issue. Get it repaired ASAP. If your is under 3 years, will be covered under warranty. You may need to leave it there a couple of days as they will need to test it for the 'issue' and test it for the 'fix'. They didn't do a good job with mine and I suspect that they damaged the brake switch during the repair. After a week, my car couldn't start as it couldn't detect me pressing the brake. So, I had to do a 'ctl-alt-del' kind of start to bypass the issue and send for repair again. Sounds like this is a common issue with Foresters........... On another topic - know of any reliable tyre shops? Time to change my tires - looking at Michelin primacy 4. just changed 225/60/17 michelin primacy 4 @ 160/pc nett. Parallel imported. Cheapest you can ever get. look for lcw76 (365 automotive) on carousell.

spawn101 1st Gear May 7, 2019 Share May 7, 2019 Looks like I better start looking underneath my car for oil dripping.... Any particular driving symptons for a leaky gearbox? I guess i should have done this too Source: https://auto.howstuffworks.com/how-to-identify-a-transmission-fluid-leak.htm Before you spend time and money going to a mechanic, take a look at your car and see whether you can identify the problem. Use the method and signs listed below to tell whether your car has a transmission fluid leak. Identify the color of the leaking fluid. A transmission fluid leak is usually red. If it's about time for the fluid to be changed, it may be brownish [source: Cars Direct]. Be aware that other car fluids, such as anti-freeze and windshield wiper fluid, are also red. You'll be able to differentiate between those fluids and transmission fluid by the consistency and smell. Identify the consistency and smell of the leaking fluid. Transmission fluid is a slick liquid that's oily to the touch, much like engine oil or brake fluid. It usually smells similar to petroleum. If the transmission fluid needs to be changed, it will smell burnt. Identify where the leaking fluid is dripping from. Transmission fluid leaks around the front and middle of the car [source: Ford]. If you find puddles of red, slick liquid on your driveway where the front and middle of your car sit, you most likely have a transmission fluid leak. Pay attention to signs from your car. If the transmission is slow to start, your transmission fluid levels are low and there may be a leak. If the transmission doesn't start at all, you may not have any transmission fluid at all [source: Carley]. Remember that transmission fluid leaks can be avoided with regular maintenance. Depending on how much you drive, you may need to change the transmission fluid every two years or 30,000 miles (50,000 kilometers).
