I still can remember the exact price I paid, $60972 1st gen also, year 2005, after that the following year the car price becomes very cheap due to low COE. Got one time dropped till  slightly below 50k. Spent almost 20k mod including sunroof and 5-6k of ICE, those were the days for 1st ride. Now got car to drive contented already, no need spend so much 😁

Nod. Nod. Yours should be 1st gen then. My they change the chrome front grill. Honestly non noticeable unless you are driving one. I changed the size mirror to those lighted indicator.

By the way did you received any recall from borneo? I got one received on Jan 2016 after 9 and 3/4 of 10 years life span gone. The letter stated airbag got issue. The recall started back in 2006 and it took them so long. Might well don't send. Borneo 😬 Damn. I reckon the letter still lying around somewhere.

I placed a deposit in 2016 Jan for a new car. Handed over my vios and gotten my vezel in apr. Probably they used it for uber? Hahaha

Conclusion. Vios a very good car but not the dealer though.

The price difference between vios and altis quite close nowadays, doesn't makes sense to get the vios. Personally would go for shuttle which is more worth, if not pay another 10k++ for the altis

Maybe this is the reason why vios is not as common and popular now as compared during the 2000 era.

The 2004/2005 era vios super popular, can see many people driving one. My friend bought the 2004 vios around $65k i think.

The 2nd generation Vios is much better than the first. It is so good that it is still with me for 11 years+.

I have not tried the 3rd and 4th generation.  Based on specifications and photos, they both look even better but they are not as value for money as my 2nd generation Vios.

I was considering between the 4th generation and Shuttle and took the latter as it is more value for money, or perhaps I have already reached uncle age.

2nd generation vios is from 2004? Indeed vios was super vfm and quite a decent car to drive during that era.

Anyway, the shuttle is airwave replacement? Cause i find these two cars looks similar.

Shuttle does not have official agent aftersales support.

Vios a good car. Easy on the pocket when come to maintenance.

Imagine your depreciation over 15 years span.

on it's 12 years

That was what I said.  Good car but not so good dealer.

So people might say buy for authorise dealer come recall for peace of mind.

Imagine driving around with an airbag pending for recall. 10years?

Vios only got two airbags then. Either my wife die or me.

even if buy from PI, if got any specific recall, they still need to follow up under LTA guidelines, only payment for the replacement is subjective.

One of the downside of PI is to drag/delay on doing the recall. No different from borneo or infact some other AD. My friend subaru also received the recall letter after 9 plus years of ownership.

Btw there is a link in one motoring where one can check whether has the recall been done. Don't know which bookmark I hide it. Hahaha

All these faults likely to be found during later part of the ownership, mainly some other brand parts that the car is using. Nothing much can be done except to recall and rectify. can happen to any car brand like many cars are using takata air bag parts.

Understanding vehicle recall

Your vehicle may be recalled if the manufacturer finds defects that need to be rectified. Your motor dealer or importer is responsible for informing you as well as LTA. They must also make arrangements to rectify the affected vehicles. If your vehicle is affected, your motor dealer or importer will notify and arrange rectification works directly with you. Check with your motor dealer for the latest information on vehicle recall.

The Electronic Vehicle Recall System
When LTA is notified by a motor dealer or importer about any vehicle recall, the information is updated into the Electronic Vehicle Recall System (EVRS).
With the EVRS, you can check:If your vehicle is recalledThe list of vehicles being recalledThe status of rectification works for your recalled vehicle

So, who is wiling to pay $82k for a new VIOS?

I planning to purchase a new car...budget about $85k. The VIOS was one of the shortlisted car. I just called Borneo Motors, they say if can confirm fast, can give me $3k discount...lol. If the COE drops in 3 - 4 months and the VIOS drops to about $78,000, i'll consider. What's the max you will pay for a VIOS?
