Yup.

But KM and BM here always are looking out for margin and bottom-line even when the cars are not selling well due to their specs/prices.

Well it's their business model.

Anyway, even if spec-ed out, i would take the CRV > Rav4. The only thing Rav4 is better is the looks of the car.

CRV still Edmund's SUV of the year for 2019.

I would take the CX5 2L premium or 2.5L Lux anytime. Build quality is miles ahead of Rav4 and CRV...

CRV plastic still feels cheap and typical of Honda, very min sound insulation

Depends on what u want.

To me, the cx-5 cabin space and luggage space is more akin to a compact SUV rather than a mid sized one. ie fighting one size down.

And SUVs are all about the space and functionality.

The only mazda that doesn't feel cramped is ... Cx-9.

Interior finishing, mazada is definitely significantly better.

CR-V 5 seater is a joke at the selling price. No safety features, 2 Airbags, and so many other important features absent compares to RAV-4 and CX-5

CR-V 7 seater is a different league and price

CX-5 was selling at very good price in December 2018 std ($107K) and premium ($115K) (As per SE update that time)  Now don't know what happen they increased price so much while COE increased by $3K only.  Any significant facelift for CX-5?

The FL is so minor that its as gd as not there.

The grill is of honeycomb pattern now. But its totally black as before which make it hard to see the difference.

360 proximity cam is now standard from 2L Premium onward. Not to be confused with the road camera. 360 deg cam aids the driver to better judge his surroundings. Eliminates blind spots as a result. Video res is pretty bad but otherwise fully useable. As a result, even 2L Premium now comes with blind spot detection and lane departure warning. AEB still not available unless you get the 2.5L Super Lux model.

HU now support Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

But 2L Premium now selling at a totally ridiculous $128k!! TEK believe they are selling Mazda Lexus ah?! :TT_TT:  :a-confused: 2.5 Luxury at $138k.. really TMD

I agree the CX5 has a higher-level of quality than Rav4 and CRV.  It's just the truth.  I was 98% there on putting a booking down on a CX5 (in the end I put it down on a CRV 7-seater).

BUT, when you break it down to numbers (OMV, ARF etc) and what you get, TEK simply prices the CX5 in such a way that maximizes their margins.  The new CX5 premium is $134k+ and the OMV is <$30k.  The lux version is $154k and OMV is very low $30k.  Although they are running a nice promotion right now (5+5 warranty + service), their standard after-service package is 3 year/warranty, 1 year/servicing.

Compare that to the CRV.  $143k for their top end trim, with an OMV of $33k and 5 year warranty + 3 year servicing.

For me, the CX5 doesn't deserve a $15k-$40k premium more than it's competitors, when it's not head over heals better than it's competition, and downright miserable in others (e.g. space).  It's good - but it's hardly perfect.

That's my analysis - but if you want the CX5, it's your choice and your money.

I agree. The 2L CX5 is just plain underpowered. The 2.5L is the one to go for but at that price, there are far better value for money choices.

I drove the current CX5 diesel during my last winter holiday at Hokkaido. The 2.2L diesel 4WD CX5 was a gem and really pulls hard in any gear. 420NM of torque from 1500rpm onwards...   [inlove]  Fantastic fuel economy of ard 19km/L even with 4WD and a 1.6 ton weight. The CX5 is really stable and comfortable in heavy snowy enviroment. This is why I had such good impression of it.

When I return to SG, I went to check out our local CX5..and although our local CX5 can be slightly better equipped than my rental car in Hokkaido, the insane prices certainly turned me off. And the 2L Skyactiv gasoline engine just doesn't have the power to haul the heavy car around.

So unless TEK can come to their senses and price their products competitively, customers will just go over to the Korean brands la. The Tuscon 1.6T can completely outrun even the CX5 2.5L at the lights anytime of the day. And Sportage if you want bigger car and diesel power and economy. And both are cheaper too.

It was $128k? It's $134k now!.  The 2.5 Lux is $154k and the 2.5 Super Lux is $158k.

The CoE only went up $2k as you say.  Totally crazy.  They were offer a CNY promotion of 5 year Warranty + 5 year servicing.  I figure they increase their prices to account for the additional cost of the this promotion, because they refuse to touch their margins on the CX5.

They seem to price their Mazda CX5 margins at the same as a Porsche Cayenne.

With some important difference...  Taiwanese get to enjoy the FACTORY INSTALLED 9in Toyota Connect screen while we sinkies pay $125k for some early 2000s 11 segment cold LED display..

And then try to convince yourself why Apple Carplay, Android Auto, Reverse cam with dynamic guidelines are not required in your Rav4... or that $125k is a fair price to pay for so many equipment deletion.

Oh Taiwanese get to enjoy the 2.5L Dynamic Force engine and 8AT from the Camry as well as the hybrid.. We got a small 2L engine and a sissy CVT

When i went NZ in Dec, I saw a few Rav 4 there, but there were many more Toyota Highlander SUV. The Highlander must be the most popular SUV there, from the number i've seen - probably outnumber Rav 4 by 15/20 to 1!

Wonder why PIs never consider bringing Highlander here...

Thats a North America market model hor. 3.5L V6 and 6AT

Actually you can enjoy the Highlander in SG. Just buy the new Lexus RX350L from BM. Highlander and RX shared the same platform and many parts, including the engine/GB

There were 2 distinct models of Highlander i saw there. There's a bigger and more rugged one (like the Fortuner size) which has a V6 at the back, but this model was prob only a handful of the maybe more than 100-200 Highlanders I've seen during the ~2 wk there.

The other model is a much more subtle-looking one which is quite similar to the Rav 4 in size, but maybe marginally longer - as i think it has 3 rows of seats (like CRV).

i tot only the V6 one is big-capacity, didn't realise even the smaller one is 3.5L... [sweatdrop]
