You're talking about descendents of Chams today, using today's notion of Malay. Not wrong. I'm talking about Chams and Malays in the historical sense.

Religion in ancient times is most often a means of political rule and projection of power.

They were buddist/hindu polities and most malays including the chams converted to Islam as it was introduced by the traders and merchants. Even the khmer king suryavarman (is closely associated with the srivijayan king) hence the architecture of their temple is similar in architecture as to thise found on java and sumatera. The old malay kingdom is quite huge and is said was up to the isthmus of kra (kera-macaque) and into cambodia and vietnam. But thanks to the Portuguese this history and its records was lost. But they are finding records of malay civilisation and kingdom in old greek, chinese and indian archives and is trying to piece them together.

1 round is 6km but the track is unshaded, no trees and shelter along the way, so avoid running when the sun is hot. And good luck if you run half way and it rains.

To add on do try to avoid weekend. The running path do dominated by those FW from the nearby dormitory.

A 10 minutes walk through the hdb block will bring you to a community centre. There are a few restaurants beside the community centre.

Not the entire track is dominated by those FW, only the track nearby the carpark and toilet area. The pandan garden side, the fitness corner not many FW. So the community centre that area opened a few restaurant liao? Last time nothing there de.

I used to live on the 11th floor of the block facing the reservior but have since moved out 20 years ago. my mother still live in the same block but on a lower floor. Just to share the view from my mother's flat.

The river on the left is Pandan river. It has aPCN connecting Pandan all the way up to Jurong east and Bt Batok, whereas the other end leads to Clementi and Ghimoh.

cyclists should go try the circular overhead bridge across AYE. The architectural design of the bridge is quite unique and it offers quite a scenic view of the Pandan river and ulu pandan greenery.

Nice view even though it is lower floor.

Those who want to catch a glimpse of the entire reservoir can park your car at block 408 open space car park, take a lift of block 408 to 11th floor which is the common corridor, you will be able to see the entire reservoir. The night view is also quite nice.
