Actually I don't think they really promoting EV . If they really sincere,  why not make the road tax cheaper than ICE cars? Then people can consider switching.

They already tell u upfront, by switching to EV, they lose out on the petrol tax they can earn if you driving ICE. Hence this is a tax upfront. so if 1 yr lock down you nv drive they also already earned your money upfront.

just like they being frank telling you be prepared for more death and cases as they are opening up, for economy.

This statement has no logic.  'I lose out on petrol tax, so you must pay me petrol tax to make up for it.'

This is the same as Singtel saying to you that, you terminated your phone line, so i didn't make the subscription from you, so you have to pay me the subscription to make up for it.

What it actually means is, 'i want money, i don't have a good reason to take it, give it to me anyway, i make the laws'.
