I think this all depends on the accept level for accommodation.  For some people they just need a basic room like Hotel 81.

For me min is 4 Star and above. And the cleanliness, room condition also important.

Wah! That's really class eh... for me a clean basic room is good enough... don't need all the luxuries especially in Europe where the basic rooms are still very clean and neat... although painfully tiny...

Switzerland is your problem, you'll need a car with specific road tax sticker since it's not part of EU

I got turned around at the border by a guy with quite a large weapon.

Is that only from Switzerland to Germany where you need the sticker?

Actually a lot of AirBnB is better than hotel. I had not stay in Europe yet.

But my experience in NYC and Aussie, AirBnB is very good and value for money.

Will see how it go for my coming Hokkaido trip. With a mixture of hotel and AirBnB and Ryokan.

In Sapporo 4 Star are limited and expensive , my 2 hotel are 3.5 star.

It is two different road taxes....... one for EU and one for Switzerland. You need road tax that covers each.

In context, it would be like SG cars needing to also purchase a MY Road Tax sticker to drive across the border, and vice versa. Without giving ideas to MY, the VEP is an easier and per use alternative so from those going in very often, MY earns more than it would from Road Tax.

You need to remember Europe is damn old. Quite some air bnb are small old home. Can be quite old and run down clean but 1980s fittings.

In a sense yes if you want the space to run around... but I also sense based on quick checks for prices on the app that prices are no longer cheap like they were at the beginning... they're all rather costly now compared to budget hotels which I usually use on my trips... so a bit difficult to justify the cost...

AirBnB is Japan was totally out of my budget range... in Japan, I think hotels are still more economical... those that I stayed in in Hokkaido in 2015 were pretty big and spacious but not too expensive... but today's prices may be quite different lar...

No aircon is common, so has to careful when travel in summer to Europe. Better not to travel there at Aug at peak of summer.

My AirBnB at NYC Brooklyn also no lift, 5th floor. The whole unit is very well renovated and new. I stay for almost 2 weeks. Carry the luggage up and down no joke.

Actually Japan and Australia. Just use booking.com and search for apartments? Airbnb at least get a super host.

Wah... 5th floor I haven't tried... I think these days even June can be really hot... so must book those with aircon... or hotel lor... if it's 30+ °C in June, I think we'll all die... Singaporeans are an aircon nation... wah ha ha...

Airbnb I will look for Superhost and very high rating. Typically 4.9 above.

After having a not so nice experience in 2019, I'd rather pay more.

Anyway i book so far in advance, i prefer hotels nowadays. Or these type of superhosts.
