what i remember about those Ramlee burgers in Msia was that it is a lot tastier....juices were ooling the moment I bite into them, patty was far bigger, and the "additions" was a lot too...cheese, eggs and cucumbers and the rest, were a lot on the burger......and there was a sauce that went with the egg...mayo or something....in all essence, it was a big burger for that price and it was nice....hahahahha....

Wah bro... you perfectly described my memory of the Ramly burger leh... ha ha...

For tourists, yes, it is generally safer than Europe.  Of course there are areas you avoid, like in Europe, which you won't go anyway as tourists. It is definitely not as safe as most Asian countries.

Those who said US super dangerous usually get that from news reports and media.  If you have never been to US, you should go and see for yourself.

Europe used to be a lot safer.

NY is like any other mega cities.  Tokyo is also "colder" than Osaka or Fukuoka.

I love NY.  Cosmopolitan like London with a lot of good food.   My favorite US city is however Miami.

Was in LA once... actually walked along Hollywood... just didn't feel safe even during the day... especially seeing people loitering around... and that was like 2009 leh... long ago... I guess it's worse now?

Which is also why I don't like Paris, cos always got people lingering around... and they're all over, even in the touristy parts... unlike London where the touristy parts feel safe generally, and only certain places like Kings Cross can feel unsafe... even in Lyon... it wasn't good... this was more recent in 2018...

Yeah but wherever you are in Japan, you actually feel safe... no loitering, no seedy lanes in the touristy places... everything is open and transparent... people are polite and don't stare like they're assessing whether to rob you or not...

You have pretty low risk tolerance if you feel threatened along Hollywood by homeless people in broad daylight.  😂

Yes, US definitely has more homeless people loitering around but I was never harassed. Not so in Europe.  We were approached on 2 separate occasions by group of men and they were obviously trying to be funny.  Didn’t help that my wife was pickpocketed on another day. I will carry a haversack, use my phone on the streets of US cities (tourist areas) but not in Europe. There are criminal gangs and syndicates preying on tourists there.

Maybe we were unlucky but almost all our friends have had bad experience in Europe recently.

Yes I tend to be super risk averse...

I've been approached in both locations... more scary in US cos they could be carrying... but not less scary in France when the group called out to us but didn't follow us...

Which is also why I don't go out at night at such places even though it is quite romantic...

Yup. Even in cities like Reykjavík and Helsinki, I feel safe.

They don’t allow migrants/ tourists to move there and or stay very long without a job offer (or retirement money) generally, unlike other parts of Europe.

I don't suppose they really need as many services as the rest of Europe given the sparseness of the population...

in US, especially NY and Jersey area, i dare not go out in the night....:veryangry:

I have never stayed in Jersey, usually in Manhattan and we will go out and shop/ dine till late at night (tourist areas only).  Last trip in 2019, we even had dinner at Peter Lugar at 9.30pm as that was the only slot left.  We however avoid using the subway at night, just cab around, pay for safety.

NY is not the safest place and there are places to avoid but the risk is quite manageable, IMHO.  But then, my risk tolerance is higher than most Singaporeans.  Don't think most will do self drive holidays in South Africa. 😂

Definitely do not go to Sweden, to the cities!

Generally, I avoid EU cities now though I feel Germany has managed better than others in recent years at not letting the rot set in so fast. I mean, the UK right now? No, thank you. France, also no. Italy, nope. Spain, no.
