bye bye DIaz.  Another super  shrewd deal by Hughes/Edwards. They recouped 67.5m pounds for a player who turns 29 in Jan next year. Think Slot would have loved to keep the player but with the need to rebalance the books with the outlay for Isak, think something got to give.

Suspect the final state of our forward line for the new season would be: Salah, Isak, Ekitike, Gakpo + 1 more squad winger.   Nunez and Chiesa will still be looking odds on to move on.  Pool likely to recoup at least 75m -  80 m pounds from these sales.

I agree that the defensively, we are looking thin with Gomez's fitness a significant concern.  the deal for Guehi will be important to get over the line. The later it happens.. it means konate will not be sold and continues to the 1st team CB beside VVD at the start of the season.

Diaz was raw when he arrived during Klopp's time.

Was frustrating initially as he tended to hold onto the ball and tried to play tricks with his footwork v often, frequently overdoing it, causing the ball - and opportunity - to be lost, and maybe even resulting in counter attacks by opponents.

Slowly he got used to the team and the league, and improved.

His father was kidnapped and that caused - understandably - some anxiety for him and the team, but fortunately it ended well.

The last season really saw Diaz flourish and he played a key role during the early part of the season, helping pool to get into a good position which ultimately resulted in the 20th title being won.

Will be sad to see him go, but that's football. If it's going to be much better for him, then let's wish him well.

think about it..  we probably sold the player at his top value as he just had the best productive season and Pool won the league. His value can only start to decline at this point as he turns 29 in Jan. We lose a utility forward who can play any of the 3 forward position including the false 9. But this feels like cashing out / taking profit move so cant  fault the management team who has certainly milked this deal dry.

That said, continuity is key and the front line for Pool will face a significant transition this coming season.  For sure, we will have a new no.9 (or false 9) at the top of the tree and a no. 10 in Writz tucking just behind.   i think there is very little time for Slot to work his tactical set up especially in coordinating front pressing...  that will only be more bedded in as the games come by.  I had a feeling that Pool will struggle in the first few games until the squad can play effectively together. Last season, it was totally different as the entire squad was kept fully intact at the start of the season.

Diaz on 50k per week at pool. Like his energy. Like his daredevil dribbling down the wing.

Wish his well. Good recoup for Liverpool.

Fyi, Gakpo scored more goals than him despite playing most games as number 10.

We have lots of money!

:D

Diaz sale means Liverpool have passed £190 million in player sales inclusive of add-ons since Richard Hughes became Sporting Director.

Hehe the end goal is to meet halfway just like jamesc used cars.

Let the customer lowball and work up to an acceptable price.

:D

The Reds are expected to make an opening bid of £100m for the 25-year-old despite being aware that the Magpies’ asking price is 50% higher, with a belief at Anfield that they can secure a deal for £120m plus performance-related add-ons.

Liverpool’s apparent strategy with their pursuit of Isak would appear to have echoes of how they ultimately signed Florian Wirtz – go in with a lowball offer and gradually work upwards before reaching a figure which’ll satisfy the selling club despite it being less than their initial asking price.

With Marc Guehi's transfer from Crystal Palace has yet to confirm, I wish to see more signings at the back (probably a dedicated CB defenders to cover Konate/Gomez). Even VDD looks pace-lacking.

“Slot also pointed to the versatility of Wataru Endo, who has prior experience in central defence, though illness kept him out of the Milan fixture. Kostas Tsimikas partnered Ibrahima Konaté in the second half, further highlighting the adaptability within the squad.”

Isak bid should be imminent... lets see how this goes.  Pool will have funds available to make this come through but doubt they will throw silly money at NC.  Isak needs to shake more trees along the way to weaken NC's resolve (and asking price).  My hunch is that the deal will end up around 140m pounds...  this is the long term Salah's transition plan in my mind...

All the best Diaz!

A good deal for both club and player.

Diaz was signed, i think prematurely, after Spurs got an offer accepted. We submitted a similar bid and Diaz chose to join us.

After a few seasons, still on his first contract, we sold him for a good margin. Money ball in action.

Honestly, watching Diaz play can be exciting and at times, frustrating. This hard working player will dribble left right everywhere and sometimes try too hard.

Slot prefers a more stable Gakpo on the left.. and Ekitike will probably be rotated between left wing and central.

For Diaz, he gets to join a top team able to offer him a good deal.. champion's league football plus almost certain winner's medal for Bundesliga now that his old club helped to dismantle Leverkusen.

When Diaz pass medical, BM send cheque,

we bid 100m for Isak and meet them in the middle 120 - 130m.
