Ur Varta was the normal variety (water needed) or maint-free one? I was very satisfied with my previous varta but this time had to get Hoppecke as I was late minute desparate! (not saying Hoppecke no good [;)] )

One fine morning my brick started with much hesitation as if there was a rat stuck in the starter motor! So that afternoon quickly went to the nearest Hoppecke dealer from my office (Varta guy too far) and got my batt changed to maint-free for $175. [cool]

British Std test/ classify lead acid batteries by ampere hr. SAE & DIN ( european ) standards use CCA ( cold cranking ampere ).

Mine was partial maintenance free type but provision was given to top up water where necessary. Had used it for 3 years and change to Hoppecke after experience difficulty in starting, the new battery cost me abt $150+. Also from AA after which sold my car..

Maint free with water filling option? Strange, which model was that Varta?

The current Hoppecke I have also have some flushed screws under sticker cover than seems to be able to open, not that I'm thinking of opening them now! [:p]

Can't remember the model, the battery also comes with flushed long cap that can be removed, but no need to top up water, maybe its for standby. Only after 2 years that I realised the water level drops and require topping up before the battery life weaken. Maybe it is a long life battery, but the ppl here like to called it maintenance free or partial maintenance free. Whatever it is, didn't bother as long as the battery lasts and do not require frequent top up.

Neutral Newbie

My Hoppecke battery has 6 flushed in screws. Require 20cents coin to open. The instruction on the battery top clearly states to check battery level at least 2 times per month and top up with battery water if necessary. I guess this is a non-MF type.
