Lester Neutral Newbie September 8, 2003 Share September 8, 2003 Are you using the correct compressor for your car? you mean this new compressor is noisy? Change it with the vendor you bought from. But bear in mind the best compressor will make noise just after 3 months minimum. Cos it is the bearing in the shaft that is giving this problem and also becos the jam mechanism wearing in but not out. What happened to your old compressor? It just died right? Common problem with Rovers.

Yeobh 4th Gear September 8, 2003 Share September 8, 2003 Roverboy, it the replacement a re-built unit? Did your mechanics vacuum the whole system before charging the system with the correct gas. Chances are there are still presence of moisture and foreign matters in the system. The other component that you may have to replace is the filter. Many R134a gas filter do not have sight glass, so charging the system with the right amount of gas ( by weight ) is extremely important. Over charging can damage the system. Ace_t Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 good to have it checked again. perhaps the condenser is leaking or some of the joints aren't properly sealed.
Lester Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 Could there be a leak in the system? Maybe get a a/c shop to check the pressure in the system? Or maybe a valve is blocked?
Sky8807 1st Gear September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 In the 1 place, why did u change the compressor. New compressor shd not be noisy. Is it done by an air-con shop or any other garage. air-con not cold can also means leak somewhere. Look like u are con by this shop. Fuel consumption figure is subjective depends on many other factor beside the air-con compressor.
Adrianli Hypersonic September 10, 2003 Share September 10, 2003 "Many R134a gas filter do not have sight glass, so charging the system with the right amount of gas ( by weight ) is extremely important." Errr, I dont think charging of refrigent gas is by weight but its by pressure. There is the high pressure line and low pressure line. Correct me if I'm wrong. Can u also check where does the noise come from??? The compressor itself or the v-belt thatz driving it. If filter dryer is hot, it means that ur filter dryer is choked, get it changed. I get all this information from my servicing of aircon units some where else. Hope that these information will help.
Yeobh 4th Gear September 10, 2003 Share September 10, 2003 Hi Adrianli, sorry , you are wrong as far as R134a is concern. Check with any professional auto air-con tech preferable whose who are from overseas & certified. In Singapore you hardly see such weighing scale for R134a gas cylinder being use ( except for few car agent workshops) because they are just to expensive or the mechanics thought all charging gases are the same. Charging gas just by reading pressure is not a good practice for R134a gas. Diagnosing noise is not that easy as many layman think. There are so many minute noise of all decibel being generated from the engine moving parts. You need more than just your ears to detect where the noise(s) come from - you need the assistance of an advance electronic stethoscope with with good headset. For comparing temperature of the high and low pressure hoses a trained mechanics will use a non-contact infra-red thermometer - very much more professional than just using your hand. If you need more information please email me - [email protected] PS Many air-con mechanics in Singapore hardly invest in diagnostic tools, so most of the time they use rule of thumb to narrow down to the source of the problem. But as vechicle air-con system get more and more complicated and more new innovative gases being introduced and used the need for diagnostic tools is becoming more and more necessary - not a luxury. ↡ Advertisement
