Hi, I would like to get fellow forumers' opinion on this. Recently, my petrol pump failed and after changout, I realized my petrol consumption has improved by 1 km/litre. Is this possible? Do I need to relibrate the fuel gauge after fuel pump replacement?

Ben,

Everything is possible if u think so. Fuel consumption is not a fixed thing. It varies from pump to pump and driving conditions beside car health condition.

IMHO the fuel pump would have little effect on fuel consumption figure, old or new, the pump always deliver more than the engine require.

Checking consumption is best done with physical top up check than relying on the fuel gauge. Gauge are just estimate of the fuel level in you tank. Only accurate at full, half and near empty. In between is rough estimate.

If your gauge seem to be working fine, best don't disturbe it.

cheers

Hi Ben,

There's no need to recalibrate the fuel gauge. When the Fuel (petrol) pump is failing, it won't be able to operate at it's optimum performance level, so when a new one is replaced, you are getting back the mileage of what is lacking from the previous failing fuel pump that's all sly.gifnod.gifnod.gifnod.gif
