Custom cutting on rear bumper

has anyone done it, or seen a bodyshop did something similiar to what the pix shows? Basically, the lower lip of the rear bumper is modified to have the exhaust cutout.

 

If there's no one who can relate his/her experience or know some shops had done it before, then I got to ask my installer friend already

You gotta check out first whether there is sufficient clearance between the Oettinger muffler box and your car before thinking whether cutting is applicable. Wanted to cut mine but I realised that the muffler could not be raised anymore lest touching the body of the car.

phalanx, cno need to check and can immediately confirm oettinger, abt or pzwo exhaust designed for bora or golf or toledo will not have sufficient room to adjust the muffler box. The only way out is to cut out the tailpipe and reweld to the desired position. That is the only way out, unless you buy miltek exhaust which is what most vwvortexers did (if they do not wish to weld) to fit to the v6 motion rear apron.

 

I have already intent to buy a twin tailpipe and reweld to the stock muffler. Decided not to spend $600 on a muffler that "theoretically" does nothing much or yield inproportionate returns. Ecotek is good enough for me, and until I go for header to exhaust tip replacement. That's why now just want to make sure that there's somebody have done it, and the workshop is experience in doing such customised job.

Urm, who told you that the muffler does nothing much man? Coz it's THE mod that made the diff in my car. Did thing about cutting and rewelding and such, but the twin pipes are big man, gonna be a bit diff to do it very well.

 

Maybe you can try Lye Designs at AMK Autopoint #04-04 I think. Heard that they do a good job on bodykits and all.

 

For me, I am more or less resigned, although after cutting and rewelding it does look better.

 

Maybe you can get a cheaper muffler that costs around $100++ like hotbits? Quite good on one other Toledo.

dont get me wrong. I think the muffler does improve the performance. But ROI wise, I am not expecting a good one, and therefore, I am giving it a pass in the meantime, especially if I can't figure out the exhaust cutout modification. Also, I would want to do the entire exhaust to be effective, but again, it'll cost abit.

so you DID have cut and reweld the exhaust? But I presume u did without doing anything to ur rear bumper. If you are just adjusting the muffler position, then it's of no use. You need to cut out the exhaust tip, and re-pipe it to the desired position.

May I suggest U check the Supersprint or Remus exhaust whether can fit for the rear pmuper's measurement. Most important is LTA approved, and power also gain by changing them.

Yep, I did a reweld so that it fits the car better. TP just rode by me yesterday, nothing. Moreover, it's quiet. Idling is very quiet. Revving to hear the bassy tone is addictive.
