Modeldriver Neutral Newbie December 8, 2003 Share December 8, 2003 Yo bros... Recently changed my car's battery (22 months from time I picked up the car - warning indicator on the maintenance free battery already show white colour) to another maintenance free one. Question - noticed from my voltmeter reading that the voltage drops frequently to below 12.5 - even lower than my original old and worn out stock. Especially when I stop at traffic lights and leave the gear engaged. It's worse when the headlamps are on. Only jumps back up to 13 plus when I shift to neutral. Sometimes see that even when the car is on the move, as I accelerate from stop. I've tried with and without HVS - same problem. Could it be the battery is faulty (but no problems starting in the morning, and the starter motor turning sounds seem ok), or rated too low for my car ? ↡ Advertisement

Saaber Neutral Newbie December 8, 2003 Share December 8, 2003 could it be the alternator?....or some parasitic drain on the battery?...
Andrewkb Neutral Newbie December 9, 2003 Share December 9, 2003 Hehhe .. sounds like a problem I used to had .... and eventually seems to solved after I fix a loose wire

Modeldriver Neutral Newbie December 9, 2003 Author Share December 9, 2003 in my usual blur way... just went to the shop, ask for maintenance free battery and left the rest to the people there to figure. So no eye-deer.
Modeldriver Neutral Newbie December 9, 2003 Author Share December 9, 2003 well, if alternator then by right when they were changing battery the car should have died (they turned it on so that while changing the battery I won't loose my radio settings). Dunno about the parasitc drain. What I can't explain though is once I free gear, the voltage climbs back to 13.8 or 14.

Vidz 6th Gear December 10, 2003 Share December 10, 2003 ...What I can't explain though is once I free gear, the voltage climbs back to 13.8 or 14. could be alternator, belt or pulley.... or some electrical stuff tat drawing an abnormal high current... my 2 cents
Modeldriver Neutral Newbie December 10, 2003 Author Share December 10, 2003 hmm.... but I dun have hardly any high drain electrical stuff either.... this is really curious.
