Laser Neutral Newbie February 3, 2004 Share February 3, 2004 Hi there, Have just changed my car battery from 45Ah to Global 60Ah maintenance free. But noticed that during idelling (waiting a traffic light) my car seems to vibrate more than last time. Any idea is it the cause of the new battery? Vtim 3rd Gear February 4, 2004 Share February 4, 2004 It could be due to the fact the ECU was being reset as the old battery was disconnected for a while. The ECU will need to relearn your driving style over again & should settle soon
Yeobh 4th Gear February 4, 2004 Share February 4, 2004 Most of the japanese cars DO NOT have "keep-alive memory". Disconnecting the battery may only reset or kill MIL ( service, fault lights) and will not reset the ECU setting. To reset ECU setting to default you will have to use only OEM scanner. For European cars, disconnecting the battery will cause the setting in the " keep-alive -memory" completely erase. For some make of cars, the memory chip is able to collect driving information over a distant of not less that 300km without any default settings.. For some european cars, you need to reset back to default before the memory chip can start to add more driving information. If you need to disconnect the battery it is best to place memory back up battery via the cigarette lighter socket to save all the headache of resting the chips , radio setting, etc
Vtim 3rd Gear February 4, 2004 Share February 4, 2004 OIC, thanks for the info, having owning mostly Conti cars, except for a short 23 mths of a Jap car , both my previous conti will have the "keep-alive-memory" being completely erase if battery are disconnected
Laser Neutral Newbie February 5, 2004 Share February 5, 2004 Hi VTIM, But I did saw the mech connecting a standby battery to my cigarette socket before changing my battery. After the battery change, I realized that my preset channel on my radio had gone missing. That's where I suspect the standby battery was not connected probably. Anyway the vibration seems to get better. Thanks Rdgs Laser
