The Accumat takes care of vibration whereas the Aerofoam reduces noise transmission. NVH, remember? [sly] And yeah, it does make a HUGE difference! [nod]

Sorry, realised you are talking about the price diff. [:p] And yeah, that much difference too!

Well, as I understand, insulating the car means reducing outside noise from coming into the cabin. Other than cutting transmitted noise, you've gotta reduce vibrated noise too. Those hifi boffins will call it NVH - Noise, Vibration and Harshness. The natural frequency plays a big part too but it's too 'chim' for me! [sweatdrop]

Padding itself will reduce transmitted noise but it does next to nothing to cut down vibration. Adding a layer of bitumen/lead material, in close contact, in other words stuck on the metal surface will reduce vibration. So wherever possible, it's better to stick on a layer of bitumen/lead material, Accumat in my case, followed by a layer of padding, Aerofoam.

Tuff Kote can actually spray a layer of bitumen (I think they call it Soundclad or something) on the undercarriage to reduce road noise, which can further reduce by carpeting the floor.

Just my $0.02.

Hi,

There's a DUNNOMUCH in Delphi forums who uses air con insulation foam and bitumen sheets for sound proofing. Insulation foams can be sourced from North East Refrigeration and Asiatic Refrigeration. Diff thickness, diff px. Size is abt 1mx1m per sheet.

Will u be DIYing? Can contact DUNNOMUCH for the px of bitumen sheets

Hope to be able to DIY , but dont really know how to do it leh. However, need to cut the vibration as well, so would it not be better to stick to the first option?

Maybe we can have a meeting session where we can do the DIY together, then we can help each other ? May be during one of the MCF meetings?

Hi,

Best if we can get a few car owners driving the same model. In this case, we can cut the template and share amongst a few cars.

BTW, who else interested in sound proofing their cars? I've yet to strip the car before... any professional 'strippers'? [nod]

Sorry, 1 point to bring out. Aerofoam is actually air-con insulating foam. It's cheap, fire retardant and of 'dead-cell' foam pattern. In this forum, for any DIY projects, cost is one major consideration! [sly]

How much does it cost again sorry?

Can we get together and do it? It is a great idea that fellas that have the same car can cut a similiar template .........but doubt any one same as mine.....but still willbe glad to do it together ! [rolleyes]

John..

DIY is not easy, firstly be prepared that you spoil some parts of the cars. Parts like clips for your car etc.

My advice to you is that make sure you know where to source those parts before you DIY.

To save that sort of money and result in other broken parts, it might be worst.

e.g. If you take out your door and do not know how to put back properly, rain will sip thru the inner door.

If you are driving a toyota, nissan or honda, I can advice you only.

Ask sparrow.. even with my advices, he still had some problems.
