Fabiaman 1st Gear January 8, 2002 Share January 8, 2002 Hey Latzu, keep that coupon can? Will check what this "The Wall" is all abt. Guys... have you paid a visit to HockHin? My dad got a coupon from an issue of Highway mag for a remote/alarm system called "The Wall" for about 200 odd dollars. It has the double-locking feature which will suit our cars. ↡ Advertisement
Fabiaman 1st Gear January 8, 2002 Share January 8, 2002 This I need to re-confirm, according to Dynasty the quoted models in the my posting above does not affect the org features of the car at all. Skoda-man brought up a point about the immobilizer. Are they capable of keeping this feature?
Skoda_Man Neutral Newbie January 8, 2002 Share January 8, 2002 No to pour cold water. But how to remote start when the car have the immbolizer???
Fabiaman 1st Gear January 8, 2002 Share January 8, 2002 Dunno boy, you got me there. Will confirm with the installers. Anyway, I am not keen at all with this, remote starting the car is too sophisicated for my liking.... sure lotsa problem one. That is why I think the basic Viper is the best option. Cheap and reputable brand.... not sure abt this Car Stop brand that Dynasty was recommending. No to pour cold water. But how to remote start when the car have the immbolizer??? Kyleng Neutral Newbie January 8, 2002 Author Share January 8, 2002 Hello Fabiaman, well, i definitely don't want the auto-start for the engine. I'll go for the most reliable (cheapest if possible) solution for a keyless entry. Don't really need the alarm. Hello skoda-man, would that involve the VAG setting? I don't know much about these stuff but would like to tag along with you guys and maybe learn something the next time you check them out. But only on weekends hor... weekdays very difficult to predict.
Fabiaman 1st Gear January 8, 2002 Share January 8, 2002 Tks Kyle, Neither do I want to have that auto engine start... does not interest me as it cost close to 500 bucks!
Skoda_Man Neutral Newbie January 9, 2002 Share January 9, 2002 Opps..... for VAG it is better to check with our DOC. He is in a better position to advice. I am interested to get the VAG software so that I can check my ECU for problem once in a while.... but I hope to be able to turn off certain sensors..... :P yeah, naughty thoughts.... Fabiaman 1st Gear January 9, 2002 Share January 9, 2002 Today called up PinLiang and the prices unconfirmed is at SGD380 for the ES300 model. Will confirm what is the discount again tomorrow as the lady who promised to call me back didnt and I had to check with another guy who have heard of my enquiry. Guys, so far Dynasty still leading at 320 bucks for the ES300 VIPER. Will confirm with Dynasty abt the immobiliser tomorrow.
Fabiaman 1st Gear January 10, 2002 Share January 10, 2002 Spoke to Wayne of Speedworks today and he said he believe that one of his remote alarm - called Wheels at only $150 can work on double lockings & immobiliser. But I urged him to confirm with the agent and call me back - did not call me yet. Confirmed with PinLiang that the ES300 is at SGD309 (the 9 bucks is for GST). But they were quite cocky in asking that either all cars in the Group buy come at the same time or I place a deposit for the order if confirmed. Cited that they received an order of a group buy from a Toyota gang but in the end only 3 of them turned up.. so once bitten twice shy for them. Lets pray that the model that Wayne of Speedworks recommended at only SGD150 is workable.
Kyleng Neutral Newbie January 11, 2002 Author Share January 11, 2002 Tks Fabiaman! Tried to search the web for the viper site. But cannot find. Only found agents carrying the product and not from the manufacturer's themself. Got the url on their site? Like to check them out and see the range of products they carry. Does Fabia has that window winding down feature when you unlock the door and hold it? Found some other brand (did not take note of brand coz were browsing) that claims the keyless entry can tap the feature. Let me know if you going down and meet them. I'll join you if I can. Fabiaman 1st Gear January 11, 2002 Share January 11, 2002 Hi Kyle, I dunno the site to Viper. I do have the brochures in my car right now... maybe when we meet, I can share with you the features. Just called Hock Hin as well for the remote and he said that only higher end models and specifically some (not all high end types) have that feature. He said he does not carry any remote that does not disable the double locks. This confirms what Dunasty is saying. What I am uncomfortable is that we pay for the higher end models like Viper or Crime Stopper ($280) and one of the features is immobiliser. So since our car already has that feature in built, we are essentially paying for something that we do not need. Let me probe more into it. Quite educational. DoctorDrake Neutral Newbie January 11, 2002 Share January 11, 2002 OK, I RTFM and also chatted with a certain person (who shall remain anonymous) and it seems that the VAG immobilizers make use of a digit keycode that is communicated between the key and the ECM each time you: 1. Insert the key into the ignition (if you don't have the remote); or 2. Use the remote. Apparently there is a little chip inside the handle of the key. Being ever the curious person I just tried to pry the handle open with a coin. But I met pretty stiff resistance so decided no to push my luck considering that I still only have one key. If this chip thing is really there, then any aftermarket remote system that claims to provide full double-lock and immobilizer functionality with Skoda cars MUST transmit the immobilizer code. If this chip thing is really there, then any aftermarket remote system that claims to provide full double-lock and immobilizer functionality with Skoda cars MUST transmit the immobilizer code. Here's a cut and paste from a very informative site... http://www.howstuffworks.com/question282.htm Question A friend of mine just bought a new car and it has a neat security feature. The ignition key has what looks like a microchip embedded in the key itself. The owners manual says without this feature, the engine either will not start or will start and then die immediately. How does this microchip on the key prevent the engine from starting? Answer Many cars manufactured by GM come with a security feature called the PASS-Key theft deterrent system. You can tell if a car has this feature by looking at the ignition key - the key's shaft has a small black module embedded in it with contacts on either side of the key. It is common to assume that there is some sort of chip or computer embedded in the key. It turns out the system is a lot simpler than that, but still effective. What is embedded in the key is one precision resistor. When you insert the key in the ignition, the resistor becomes part of a simple circuit involving three other resistors. If the key does not have a resistor or it the resistor has the wrong value, the circuit disables part of the car's electrical system to prevent the car from starting. So why is this system using something as mundane as a single resistor rather than some sort of sophisticated embedded computer? There are probably two reasons: 1) manufacturing cost, and 2) reliability. Number 2 is probably a very big part of the equation. Think about everything a key goes through - its typically riding in a pocket full of coins, getting thrown on the table, opening bottles, and so on. Keys have to be remarkable durable, they have to last the life of the car, and they must always work. If a system that depends on a single resistor can do a good job, then that's a good system to use because there is less to go wrong. Why have the resistor at all? Don't the teeth on the key provide protection against theft? The resistor is simply adding a layer of difficulty to duplicating the key. It is fairly easy for a professional car thief to pick a lock or forge a key. By adding a component that is difficult to duplicate, you slow down criminals at least a little. The following patent describes this type of system in a lot of detail: http://www.delphion.com/details?pn=US04296402__
Fabiaman 1st Gear January 15, 2002 Share January 15, 2002 Skodians, Fabians and Octavians.... there is a new twist to this hunt for the cheapest and non disruptive remote alarm. Speedworks called me today to confirm that one of his brand WHEELS (not the mag hor) Remote Alarm can be fitted together with something called the "Accurator" (not sure of the spelling such that the double locking feature is maintained. The ket thing is that it both adds up to an affordable $175 ($150 for the remote and $25 for the "accurator"). He confirmed with the agent that this will not affect in any way the double locing feature and the immobiliser. Hence we can safely take this offer. So I conclude my search with these 2 competiting offer: 1. Viper $320 at Dynasty (forget PinLiang whose $10 cheaper comes with strings attached like deposit first etc) 2. Wheels & "accurator" at Wheels in Katong at $175.
Seven11 Neutral Newbie January 15, 2002 Share January 15, 2002 Doc, you mean you only have one key to the car? You lost the other 2 or what happened?
