DoctorDrake Neutral Newbie January 16, 2002 Share January 16, 2002 I received only one key when I took delivery of the car. Usually, when the car is shipped from the factory, the second key is placed somewhere in the car, e.g., glove box. However, the shipment of which my car was part of did not have the second key. So now JTA has to get the keys from factory, and that is taking a long time. At least that's JTA's explanation. Doc, you mean you only have one key to the car? You lost the other 2 or what happened? Being ever the curious person I just tried to pry the handle open with a coin. But I met pretty stiff resistance so decided no to push my luck considering that I still only have one key. DoctorDrake Neutral Newbie January 21, 2002 Share January 21, 2002 That's what workshop said lor. Dunno whether true or not. Still waiting. DoctorDrake Neutral Newbie January 21, 2002 Share January 21, 2002 Exactly! I give one set to my parents, and one set is kept at home. Hope I don't have an emergency requiring two or more keys. Touch wood. [reply]Dont mind me asking, but what happens if your lost the only key you have? This is so funny that a distributor give you only 1 key and has to wait for 2 more keys from the factory? Which car gives only 1 key on delivery. If you lost the key, you have a sitting duck in the car park man. [reply]
Fabiaman 1st Gear July 21, 2002 Share July 21, 2002 Czechmate -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hi folks when i got my octy in feb 01, was told that rdl will conflict with some? other? system?. just saw CA product list and among item provided for octy is rdl . Is there anyone here driving octy ambiente with rdl and if so was it done in the aftermarket? can share ur expereience? would love to have one installed. can anyone recommend a decent system which is not too ex? Octyman -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can get Czech Auto to order it as spare parts for you. There is a kit for installing into the Oct that came without the RDL. The remote is not too nice looking though. http://oldpartner.skoda-auto.com/pictureba...p?code=OCA10025 JTA did bring some in for the Otavia / Fabia but due to their lack of funds and skill only a couple of them cars got installed. If you go with aftermarket ones, please make sure they can handle this thing called "double-locking". Yeah. I know it feels lousy. JTA has really ripped us off big time. No RDL, no rear wiper, no door open indicator. If I see any of the Lim bros, I might not be able to hold myself back but to throw a few punches. Czechmate -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- good to know there's hope yet for rdl. do u know if CA can do the rear wiper and door open indicator as well? have u had urs done? was it by CA? as for the owners of the company formerly known as the official distributor of Skoda cars in Singapore and currently known as...i guess the less said the better. rgds
Fabiaman 1st Gear July 21, 2002 Share July 21, 2002 Czechmate & Octyman... in short, if u want to get remotes for the skoda... u need a higher end model which does not "do away" with your Double Locking feature. Understand that a cheapo model is unable to set for double locking.
Czechmate Neutral Newbie July 21, 2002 Share July 21, 2002 so...did u guys end up getting the viper...did it work? any probs?
Fabiaman 1st Gear July 21, 2002 Share July 21, 2002 Nope... all the shops I went to quoted too much .... $300. The only one that quoted below $200 ... alas, have no confi in them lah. Also btw... only me & Kyleng was keen... hence Group Buy project was abandoned.
Skoda_Man Neutral Newbie July 22, 2002 Share July 22, 2002 Aiyah the RDL is nothing to shout about lah. I do have it and the look sucks and all it does is to lock and unlock only. Range is so short, like 2 meters. On a good day 3 meters or so. You will not loss your double lock system if you install RDL. Just that you will need to use your key to double lock it. Unlock the same way too.
Fabiaman 1st Gear July 24, 2002 Share July 24, 2002 Are you refering to the factory fitted Skoda keyless entry?
Skoda_Man Neutral Newbie July 24, 2002 Share July 24, 2002 Yes, original Skoda Remote Locking system lah. Not keyless entry a la Merc transponder system. But mine is fitted at JTA not factory
Fabiaman 1st Gear July 29, 2002 Share July 29, 2002 If its Skoda factory lock... then no issue lah.. since our brudders here all thinking of gettinga after market fix... cannot imagine branded stuffs like CrimeStopper or Viper has a remote of range 2 metres! Vass Neutral Newbie August 10, 2003 Share August 10, 2003 Just got myself a 2 yr old Octy Amb (M). Car does not come with remote lock/unlock mech. (1) remote lock Read thru the above thread and understand that there is the double lock mech for our Octy.... so can anyone recommend any brand/model & price that suit our octy ? (2) Rims Also, the rims are skoda rims so I presume it's stock & the tyre fitted are Firestone ( Just curious to know from fellow skodian who brought their octy from JTA abt 2 yrs back, are the tyre originally firestone ?) Is it still safe to use tyre which are > 2 yrs old ?? (3) Thinking of changing the filter to K&N, what's the model the I should get ? hope to get valuable advice from fellow skodians....thks.... Skoder Neutral Newbie August 11, 2003 Share August 11, 2003 Hi Vass, 1) Dunno how to advise you. However,I am looking for some audio warning. Currently, mine come with remote thingy. But no sound. In the end, sometimes forgot to lock properly. 2)My Amby bought June 2003. It comes with awful looking 15" stock cover and conti tyres. Wanna change the rims to 17" sports... waiting for money to drop from heaven or KW slash their prices by 70% 3) Just change my K&N filter at $138 from Mcwell. Yes $138. No choice as some of the places I have been got no stocks or priced at $10-15 cheaper. Mcwell offers cleaning of the filter free for you. So might as well. Considering, you have to buy the oil thingy and put it somewhere till you hit 10,000KM and dig it out again, praying that it's still good for use and provided you can still find it in my rubbish bin. I was thinking, ahhh heck. let them do it la. I am thinking to do something for item 1 first. Followed by no.2.Call me if you have any good lobangs. Cheers!!! Virus 2nd Gear August 11, 2003 Share August 11, 2003 1) Paiseh, can't comment, mine stock too. 2) Mine also from JTA, stock tires is Firestone 680. Tires > 2 yrs should be OK as long as the thread is OK and no hard driving. The rubber compound is harden thus the grip is not as good. 3) K&N filter can get from Servo (contact Dennis) at around $100. I think only 1 type available. Cheers ↡ Advertisement
