Genie47 1st Gear February 8, 2004 Author Share February 8, 2004 (edited) Definitely! Many of the people at bobistheoilguy forums concluded that 50wt oil is just too heavy and the protection doesn't come in at start up where the most wear occurs. A lot of users listed their high mileage vehicles and many are using 30 and 40wt but not 50wt oils. For a normal user like us clocking city and highway miles, 30wt is good enough. For maximum economy, 20wt and even Toyota manuals recommend that for their new cars. As for the aggressive overtakes part. Any oil will shear. Even the oil gurus refuse to take syn oil at 10k drain intervals. The most is 7.5k and that is miles. In our case, only 10k km. Whatever oil we use, just need to remember a nice OCI like 10k. Cuy the marketing hype on extended drains just change the oil regularly. In my case. RP is so affordable, I can change it every 7.5k to be safe. S2P2 Neutral Newbie February 8, 2004 Share February 8, 2004 i heard of beamers going for 20K but never a civic if thats what you are driving. personally i say 10K. whatever the manual may say, they probably say it for another country that is less warm and humid.....so our so called oil is under more temperate changes than others.......so i go for 10K. S2P2 Neutral Newbie February 9, 2004 Share February 9, 2004 it depends on what plugs you are using.....actually IMHO, plugs just need to be clean then reuse one.....

Extended oil change period must come with both full synthetic oil AND good oil filter... Cheapo oil filters last only around 6000-9000km... When you go past that, you are in some grey area of what is happening in your engine. Another extended drainage brand is Amsoil, they also use their own brand filter, or else recommend u change your regular filter(not oil) every 6000km or so.. I think Beamers use specialized filters and full syn oil to last that long. Factors affecting engine oil degradation are weather(cold = worse due to condensation), humidity, pullution, air intake filtration quality and quality of gasoline.
