Hi guys,

 

I'm back from New York. Saw a lot of Focus/s there ! Got a question to ask the Focus owners in this forum. I've been driving my Focus for close to a month now and I've got a feeling that the fuel consumption is quite high about 8km/l. My full tank can go to only about 380km before the fuel indicator comes on. And when I top up (I usually go once Athe fuel indicator comes on), a full tank takes in about 47 litres. I've checked the tyre pressure and it's alright so don't it's due to tyre pressure. Unless it's because it's still new and hence need tuning ??

What is the mileage of your car now? Has it run in yet? I know this might sound funny but since i got the car i have not finished my tank yet! Still at the 3/4 mark [blush][blush]

 

Well at the 3/4 mark, i got ard 190km. Is that about the same as yours?

My mileage is about 1020km now. By the time the I reach the 1/2 mark, my Focus will usually cover 200 to 210 km. So your's fuel consumption looks better than mine. I was told that my model is a Ghia model, due to some additional features that was found in my Focus, eg. the dashboard light intensity dial control knob and also able to switch on the front and back fog lights independently. So, not sure if this means the fuel consumption would be higher for the Ghia model. Maybe I should go RM to check up.

The present 2002 models are the comfort models? Mine is the comfort model and i have the dashboard light intensity control as well as the switch for the fogs, and the headlight aiming control. Is yours manual or auto, me forgot [blush]

 

My mileage is only 300km+ now, so i cant really comment on my consumption. But yours seem on a pretty high side. What fuel are you using? It might have a bearing on this

I have another friend who bought an Focus auto (like me) but doesn't hv the dashboard intensity control knob. So, my sales rep told me that mine could be a Ghia model, so could be yours too ! Perhaps other owners can verify this.

 

I'm using Mobil 95 now. Do check what's the capacity of your fuel tank too. I'm surprised that mine could take in 47 litres 'cos I was told it should only take in 43litre at the most.

Hmm...thats weird! Cos in the sales agreement it says "comfort" [crazy]

 

The tank for the focus is supposed to hold 55 litres incl the reserve amount. Why dont you try to pump 98? It might improve. When i finish my tank, i would keep you posted. Mine's a manual btw [:)]

The fact that yours is an auto might have something to do with it. Also, do you drive gently or spiritedly? I think the driving style is probably the single most important factor in fuel economy. My Focus is identical to MagFocus' (right down to colour!) and only a few days older. It's now onto 1100km, and things look better than new, about 11-12km/l. Thing is, I've kept the revs below 3k and mostly not pushed it. Oh, and using Castrol 98 (got 10%!) Do keep us updated.

8km/l is too much for a auto 1.6. Try to get the exact spec for the fuel tank capacity and ask RM to do a on-board diagnostic check to see whether do U have any vacuum leaks.

 

Newer cars like yours probably need only 1000km to run in so shouldn't be due to the running in that is causing your poor economy. FYI my brick does 7.5km/l average. [:)]

What to do? Driving to work everyday, using car for work, my family lives on other side of the island. Meanwhile, you just drive to and from market issit? [:p]

Anyway think its better if you service at 1500kms [;)]

I pump 220 for all tyres as recommended. But somehow I still find the front tyres a bit deflated (flat) looking..

I think abit flat, user manual is according the europe weather, Singapore is 'hot' place, trye usually inflated. Same as my Mondy, user manual asked 30 psi, and full fuel tank can't ran 400km, one frnd told me pump at 38psi, and consumption improved.
