if you are driving Auto, would advice you not to use cone (open pod) filter sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif FC will increase but will depend on your driving style nod.gifnod.gifnod.gif

yeah...that's wat i think but nowi'm on trial with the cone thingy. my mech let me use it to see if there is any perf increase n FC increase too. but when he changed it for me, i realised that esi air intake goes well down from the bumper like the CAI mod. that's quite cool actually....thumbsup.gif

I've heard of a few guys complaining that after using open pod filters, their top speed actually decreased... anyone knows why ah? I still haven't got this figured out after a long while... [confused]

this I haven't encounter ley! I think it'll depend where the open pod is being place, the ultimate is still as close to the throttle body as possible wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

Close to the TB is good for hi rpm, and longer intake tube may be better for low to mid-range rpm (town-driving) due to the longer path that's good for building up momentum.

A word of caution. Exhaust mods must precede all intake mods. Period.

Meaning if you want to soup up air intake. Your exhaust must be up to standard as well. So if you want to go down the "breathe more air" route, you got make sure the exhale hole is big enough to accomodate.

for me, not seen any FC increase yet but engine a bit noisy due to the filter...froohh...frooh..sound.....but a bit smoother on the accelerating, pickup a bit of drag on 1st gear...after that smooth sailing....

Yes. Unless the car already has a good exhaust system like a 4-2-1, bigger centre box, muffler and tip, upgrading the intake system to swallow more air is placing the cart before the horse. [thumbsdown]

Want to upgrade, must be serious and upgrade all the way. A king consults his generals before deciding to go to war. Same here.

Upgrade exhaust first. Then upgrade the intake with hiflo air filter or better, bigger throttle body and injectors if your car is EFI. For carburetted car, hiflo filter and big throat carburetor.

The effects of the exhaust upgrade will be feld immediately first. The torque is improved but the high end seem to suffer a little until you put in that intake upgrade. You will see improvement across the range. [thumbsup]

Actually the characteristics of the sound can be pin pointed to the intake and also the what is inside the engine.

I got a mild street sport cam inside. Car sort of chugs when startup. Exhaust sounds are audible. But put her past 4.5k to 7k and she goes into this high pitch jet engine sound with RPMs rising very fast [inlove] . Before I know it, in 2nd gear the Japanese ding dong speed warning device kicks in [thumbsup] .
