Helping my uncle who has a big family buying a new MPV but he wants to be on the budget for the long run.Has anyone seen or test drive a Toyota Sienta 1.5 7 seater? Im suprised to see a 1.5 MPV in the market as the road tax is about $500 for 6 mths compared to a 1.8 where its about $1k for road tax for 6 mths.Anyone out there, pls advise if my uncle wants to buy this car from PI and the pros and cons.

Thanks

maybe it might be powered by the same 1.5L vvti engine as found in the toyota corolla or the toyota vios..even though it seems powerful enough for both vios and corolla..carrying 7persons using a 1.5L is realli a bold try as power would definitely suffer due to the much heavier weight it had to lug around [shakehead]

the toyota picnic seems the best choice..but wait a min..i tot toyota picnic onli comes in 2.0L whereas the 2.4L is brought in by the parallel importers called toyota IPSUM [thumbsup]

Wish is a better buy than any of the other mpv. looks good and amazing FC.

However, it is only available by PI, but you can get a wish for around 88k+ if u look hard enough.

hmm....if u got see it carefully, the rd tax is the most interesting part to consider the Sienta as 1 yr rd tax is only about $1k compare to Wish about $2k.u save about $1k for only the rd tax.

Go for WISH... IMHO, it comes with the most aftermarket options. Sienta has limitations....

To help u change your mind... below are some PICS (read on, but be forewarned, I wont be responsible for poison)

(If I didn't get the Jazz, the WISH's my choice!)

Interesting. How come road tax such a big difference? Only 300cc difference only what. Anyone know how road tax is calculated?

For me I would have went for the Stream 2.0 but never the 1.7. So i guess the next logical choice would be the Wish. At the same time i would also buy from a PI because their markup is much lower than a authroized agent.

The downside of buying from PI is the after sales service. The lower the selling price the worse the after sales service. The more reputable ones like Richburg or Riccardo costs about 3k to 4k more but then you get a piece of mind. The worse thing for a PI car is when you get into a shunt, you might have to wait a couple of weeks for the parts to arrived from Japan and also the insurance is more expensive than authorized agents cars. tongue.gif

Is it really true that PI will give a better price? Before the price change, KM was selling the Stream 1.7 for $90,000. When I went to the PI at Turf City, they quoted me $92,000. Am I not negotiating correctly? Maybe I look like a carrot!!!!

Maybe some of you can recommend a good place to get cheap Stream 1.7 besides KM.

Personally I am considering the stream 1.7 because I only need the additional space occasionally. A 2.0 would be too much for me to maintain even though it has all the extra things.

See how lah. Maybe the price will narrow so much that it does not make sense anymore to get the 1.7. Who knows.

Hmm for main stream model that both PI and Agent are selling, go to the Agent. Selling at 90K Kah motor makes about 5K, that is about the profit margin for the PI too. You have to know that the agent as well as the PI makes another 3% to 5% from the loan that you take. So you take a 70K loan from the bank they get another 2K to 4K profit. Use that to pressure them. Whne i first bought my Accent they only make 1K from me and the the rest from my loan. wink.gif

Well i think it is about 5K difference between the 1.7 and 2.0 Stream but then the road tax, insurance, as well as fuel consumption will adds up. Do your sum carefully. It is not only the monthly installments you have to consider. thumbsup.gif

Thanks for your advice. I am working my sum. I was considering between the 1.7 and 2.0 as well. Finally decided on the 1.7. Test drove it and feel it ok. With four in the car, the pick-up was reasonable when I floor it. The gear ratio seems to be quite well spaced out unlike the Mazda 3. First gear to second gear, the jump too big, you feel a sudden lost of power. Nearly couldn't overtake a taxi from a stand still!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know what the actual fuel consumption is like for the stream 1.7. Please provide driving style and type of roads travelled on. Thanks in advance.
