Hi all optra owners', is yr optra's battery the maintenance-free type or normal type?? Yesterday when i off work, cracking the car for 5 mins to get it started. Check the battery water and found that it is going to be empty.

 

Just finish the servicing a month back and this happens, is the service centre suppose to check it when doing servicing???

You are supposed to check the battery fluid levels once every week! Don't wait for the service centre. Please don't say, ley chey. This is your car and you have to maintain it like you maintain your own house!

 

Please go to www.carcarecouncil.org for a detail of simple maintenance that has to be done by YOU! Yes YOU! the car owner.

bro. if you got time go back to them and lodge a complain but 1 month more than sufficient time to drain the battery water leh.frown.gif

Just highlight this case to them..... seems there is a problem with the optra batteries, sub con got probthumbsdown.gif.

Problem with MF battery is that you cannot really monitor and maintain. There is a gel in the battery not fluid. To check battery health you need a hydrometer. How to with a gel inside? So MF is really MF and you also dunno when it will die! [shakehead]

Sound exactly like the same bloody problem I faced about a month ago. [shakehead]

 

Nothing serious...but damn irritating! [furious]

 

It's a reminder to us all...especially the lazy ones (like me)...MUST CHECK battery!

I know when it's still ok - colour should be green , when its dead it will be - brownish red, now how are going to check if its going to die ??? and is there any way we could save it ??? Lifespand of this MF batt is 2 years ???

 

Hmm bros help me out here i'm [dizzy] already.

Think it will last only 1 year, actually ask SE if i can chnage to normal batt b4 collecting my new car, ,but said is a standard from factory...

There is a warranty period of 6mths or 10,000km (whichever comes first) for the battery. And the warranty is repeated if you replace it at SA.

 

So if it happens to you...unless you everyday "Tour De Singapore" like me...should be able to get it replaced FOC.

 

Like I said lor...just damn irritating!

Hi All,

 

I happen to be curious this morning and take a look at my battery after the servicing in March 04 [confused]. Thinking that I should not be so "suay" again. You know! To my horror, the light is in red!!! [furious][furious][furious] Representing "Top up battery water! What the F**K is it? [furious] After servicing and the battery dry up so soon! I think I need to [rifle] the machanic who check my car during servicing. Can all brother please take a look at your battery and see how many of you have the same problems! At least we cure the problems first before it is too late and need to replace the battery.

What the hack...i also ask the mechanic yesterday what they service, he even told me battery water...think cannot trusted. must make sure they on the ballthumbsdown.gifdon't play play

Ask for regular liquid cell battery. In this kind of weather, these batteries are better. MF batteries have gels, how to keep them hydrated? No liquid level to check also! [shakehead]

 

The engine bay is also very hot, no battery is going to survive well unless we do a batter relocation mod. Should not be a problem, Optra and Aveo boot space can cram 4 illegal immigrants easily. [:)] Can release space in the engine bay for more powerful mods like CDI [sly] .

Yes, i understand that batteries will need to be check weekly (or bi-weekly) to top up as needed. As instructed by the SE (and also sales when taking delivery of the car) in SA, by looking at the top of the batteries will show u whether it needs to be top up, and done as per said. But this still happens, and it is still showing me the rite colour.

 

I am not being lazy but the SE have told me that the sales are telling customers the wrong info to customers as this is a maintenance free batteries. It is not only me, but a few customers are also being faced with this problem.

 

I have been driving for the past 10 years with diff models and definitely I am not a driver that does not know "how-to" of a car. Your post is a bit too harsh........

 

Pls all optras (SE told me that only optra is being affected in this battery case), do not base on the colour of the indicator on top, open up and check the water level for the batteries, and top up as needed but not too full as it will spill out.

Ask them to change to the reliable liquid cell setup. At least we can be assured that the battery can last 2yrs at most or with constant checks with a hydrometer, 3yrs.

 

Or would you like to seek out those battery relocation kits. There is a sealed plastic container where the batter sits in with cover. This thing is bolted down to be secured in the boot. The boot is much much cooler than engine bay and will ensure the survival of the battery.

When you get them to replace the battery...make sure they use the correct nut to secure.

I had problems opening the frame holding the battery after they changed my batt.
