Pisces69 6th Gear November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 Yes I agree cos yellow light frequency gives clearer contrast. I was hoping that DV gave a brighter light output(lumens). Looks like I wil stay with VP for now. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 Well to b honest, I did notice a difference when they were new. But not 50%. Well maybe, but their advantage is the spread is more even & lights up the whole arc, unlike other halogen bulbs which have some dark areas. On a totally dark road, the visiblity is still better than normal halogens.
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 Philips claim that LUMINANCE is up 50%, not LUMENS lumens is actual light, luminance is more of focusing the light... VP focuses the available light in one area, making that area brighter, but other areas become less bright...
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 sorry, i should have put 'it's not that' in front of the first sentence... hehe... it's not that VP doesn't throw light better than DV...
Wrc206 Neutral Newbie November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 maybe when 1 of my bulbs blow liao then change all to VP.
Wrc206 Neutral Newbie November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 you really confused me earlier So which bulb you using? I think DV should be ok cos me and some frens passed inspection with it.
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 i'm not using any Philips bulbs now... i'm using Toshiba HIR2 bulbs... 75% to 85% more lumens than stock, but come at a cost... $120 per pair, shipped from US... its still a yellow bulb at 3600k, but i see more of what's on the road now, though i can't tell where the light ends, like a true white bulb... check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOSHIBA-HIR...sspagenameZWDVW

Wishsing Neutral Newbie November 3, 2006 Share November 3, 2006 so how is this compared to "true HID" lights in terms of LUMENS/ seeing more of the road etc? Does HID in general give better LUMENS than VP or the toshiba lights you are using? thanks for the advice.
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear November 4, 2006 Share November 4, 2006 ya, unfortunately, HIRs only fit HB3 and HB4....
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear November 4, 2006 Share November 4, 2006 HIDs @ 35w put out about 3200 lumens normal halogens, including VP put out about 1000(H4) - 1500(H7)lumens depending on design stock high beams put out about 1800 lumens. HIR2 (low beam) @ 55w puts out 1750-1850 lumens HIR1 (high beam)@ 65w puts out about 2800 lumens HIDs are the brightest bulbs on the road now, no doubt, but if you fit HIDs on halogen reflectors, you get light going everywhere but the road, so while you see alot of light, your vision on where it is most important is diminished. just remember this, just because the light appears white (bright), it doesn't mean you can see better. Pisces69 6th Gear November 4, 2006 Share November 4, 2006 maybe when 1 of my bulbs blow liao then change all to VP. ========================= Ya but I have to remind u thet VP is still a far cry from the quality of HID's. Maybe it's a little better than normal halogen only. But if u dont mind paying the higher price compared to abt $6/bulb for normal halogen, then u do get a slightly better illumation on dark roads. Treesmaker Clutched November 4, 2006 Share November 4, 2006 the bluer the tint, the leseer the actual light output. VP is the brightest among DV, CV and VP. VP would be best for MY driving. just because it appears whiter doesn't mean it's really brighter... You are right! I studied lights in the polytechnic, I tested all kinds of light in the lab. The white light may not be bright enough, the color temp go up towards the blue spectrum, therefore the red end of the spectrum is deminished. There is actual a blue filter on the bulb that lets blue light through, but blocks the reds. Therefore the light looks white. I used colour cards in the lab to test various colours of bulbs /lights. The best lamp was metal halide as used in sports stadium follow by Halogen, yes yellow halogen. ↡ Advertisement
