heeheehee!

5 speed auto is still auto. [:)]

and SMGs/Selespeeds etc. are NOT manuals. [:/]

I am a control freak! Well then again, what to expect, me is IT guy. Me is systems type of guy. Me doing security.

Yup... Paranoid Control Freak Panda. That's me! [nod]

SMGs/Selespeed/DSG are sequential manual. They have real manual gear boxes and the only thing missing is a human operated clutch pedal. IMHO, sequential manuals are the way to go and more car makers will be using this in the future.

yup...

drove it before... but I must say, it take getting used to the emptiness when you change gears and there's a lag in between... sweatdrop.gif

There is, without any doubt, nothing manual about it... frown.gif

The selespeed actually shifts very fast but it feels slow because only your fingers are doing the shifting. So after you "click" the paddles, you are just sitting there waiting for the gears to change and it seems like an eternity because there is no activity on your part. I can't seem to find the site now, but the selespeed actually shifts in less than 1 sec and it shifts even faster after a certain rpm (race mode).

Compare that to changing gears manually in a manual car with clutch and the H gate. The driver has to work his hands and legs (heel and toe sometimes) to change gears. So with all the activity, the gear change seems to happen faster. Think about it for a while.

A good driver in his own car will probably be able to shift gears faster some time but probably not all the time. Human has "form" (i.e. good days and bad days) and this affect the shifting speed. But selespeed is mechanical and not affected by emotions (O, oh "I, Robot..." )

But honestly, at the track when one has to accelerate hard on the straights and brake as late as possible going into the bend, the driver has to heel and toe and down shift very fast and he can get it all wrong. Then he will spin out... A driver on the selespeed has proven to be able to brake later because the system do the heel and toe for him.

Of all the selequential manuals in the market, the Audi DSG looks the best! And I think sequential manual is the direction most car makers are going into.

All of the above?

I think I might even have problems affording "all-of-the-above" AutoArt 1:18 (s).

Btw... Anyone knows where to get Auto Art selection?

The one in Suntec outside Carrefour still around? Last time I saw it was closed.

To assist in smooth gear shifting is only ONE of the many other purposes of a clutch. In any case, it is possible to shift, without clutching in with certain gearboxes. [:)]

To me manual clutch is vital to driving as you can moderate torque delivery. [:)]

I Like Coupes, Sun-roof, smooth rides without exceedingly hard suspensions, boot space and red colour. Needless to say, my vote goes to the RX8 [nod][inlove]

Dude... I know you're kinda unusally pro-RX8... lemme rattle off from the top of my head everything I find wrong about that car.

1. Strange body shape. All panels need to buy new ones in case of any mishap. Nothing can be knocked back.

2. Mazda cosmetic parts are known to be expensive. And this RX-8 is the worst ever. MM's specs, you'll have yourself a handful in the event of a minor collision. Bumper, headlamp washer x 2, HID lights light housing etc. x 2, oil cooler x 2, fog lights x 2, side indicator lamps x 2. Guess how much that'll set you back on cosmetic damage alone? 5K++

3. They have some sort of felt material at the bottom of rear wheel arch. Like conti cars, to absorb sound, but also like BAD idea to retain moisture and rotting dirt from the ground behind the arches. May result to pre-mature rusting.

4. The boot seals at the back are WIERD. Water drainage positions end up near the rear-light housing. Leaves that are washed into that cavity will be trapped there until you remove the light housing. Good luck.

5. Engine oil change. Circulation engine oil 5.8 litres, per change 3.5 litres, you change only that from the sump and engine. So either you spend alot of money and effort flushing the whole engine... or... you should know better la... you're PERMANENTLY running on partial waste oil, so you should be changing syn. oil every 5-6k for this car. That suxx.

6. The door seals run so long! Expensive to replace, easy to spoil.

7. Oil filter catridge is in a strange position. Very irky to change. Oil spills everywhere.

8. Rear lamps are ugly. Period.

9. Rear multi-link, 6 rubber bushings. Rubber? In our weather, that's no good. and to change that 6, its quite alot of effort.

10. I don't know what got into them to give stock rims that weighs like an elephant, 18x8, but gives you 225 tyres that cannot protect the rims at all.

11. No mud guards. That's fine if the design is such that stuff churned up from the road will not reach the body panels, but in this case it will.

12. Engine bay laced with so much of those paper pulp sound proofing material... They're so... ABSORBANT.

13. The variable intake system... how many... 7 valves? Don't think they look very lasting.

14. blah blah blah...

I think... Mazda tried, but perhaps they tried too hard. [:/]

Without too much of the looks, the electronics, the horsepower value chase, I think its a fine car. [:)]
