Zombie Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 to be frank, I am not a very technical in terms of cars. In case my interpretation of the technical stuff is wrong, I better not try to explain. I drive a Jazz. This is what I have done. Based on my feel during driving. - Change to denso iridium Result : the engine feels smoother. - Change to apexi exhuast Result : high-end torque improve quite a bit. Now I can overtake quite confidently at high speed. Of course, the sound is cool.... vroom...vroom... but this is an approved one, so don't expect another 30hp gain. 5-10 should be there. As for the air-filter, mine is a flop. Waiting to change to an open-pod. Will post my feelings after that. ↡ Advertisement
Blurcock Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 thanks. I kind of feel maybe i wun go for the air filter kind of thing cos that might give them an excuse to "void" my warranty. But if u feel any good vibs after doing the filter, let me know ok? Iridium plug sounds quite cool. I got a friend working in denso, will ask him more about it. Wat are apexi exhaust? it will increase the bhp of the car? sounds like something i might consider. I was already kind of looking to get those chrome looking exhaust for my lancer too. Zombie Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 chrome looking??? Well not sure what you meant but mine is chrome looking. open-pod may have a chance of voiding warranty. But I am not going back to KM after 40K already. Becos I set my eyes on the SAFC which confirm will void warranty. Anyway their servicing is not cheap. Have to keep my fingers crossed. Lancerddt Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 change the air filter dun "void" your warranty, but changing without approved exhaust will "void" by TP .
Zombie Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 yup. $500 if caught.
Jonathan Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Author Share September 8, 2004 Hi Guys, Would be looking at 'legal' modifications now which will not void the warranty cos my car's brand new! I know changing the exhaust is out. What types of air filter or spark plugs are legal and what kind of power increase will they give you? Any idea on their costs too? Thks! Robin 4th Gear September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 I'm currently using a drop in K&N & denso iridium SP... K&N with cleaning kit will set u back by $100 while the SPs will cost about $70 with installation
Lancerddt Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 you may want to try K&N drop-in filter cost below 100..look for 2nd hand, very cheap . will feel mush better than stock filter As for spark plugs, you can go for Denso Iridium (IK16)if your ride is CS3 GLXi , no GDI I brought it $20 per pic for Denso(IK16), you can check on Mcwell they may sell cheaper. Toonstar Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 After a few years of car modding, i would like to share my experience. Firstly, dun waste money with the iridium plugs. The money paid is not worth the improvement. It's at negligible performance. I suggest u do regular change of the normal copper plug at your regular servicing interval. It feels better after the plug change. This is better than keeping your so call life-long iridium plugs. For air filter, in hot weather singapore, keep to a simple drop in air filter i.e. k&n or HKS or others. Dun bother with open pod which will make your car perform worst as all the hot air in the engine bay will get sucked into the filter making performance sluggish. Unless of course you invest in an enclosure to allow cool air to be in contact with the open pod. Hope the above is helpful. Just wanna share some advices and dun want ppl to fall for gimmicks or follow others.
Lunglungjiu Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Share September 8, 2004 "dun waste money with the iridium plugs. The money paid is not worth the improvement. It's at negligible performance" Like Toonstar says, cheaper and good enough to use normal spark plugs with regular change. "Dun bother with open pod which will make your car perform worst as all the hot air in the engine bay will get sucked into the filter making performance sluggish. Unless of course you invest in an enclosure to allow cool air to be in contact with the open pod." If anyone is really interested in open pod, it will be good to complement with heatshield and CAI. Jonathan Neutral Newbie September 8, 2004 Author Share September 8, 2004 What type of power increase will you get for these 2 items?
Robin 4th Gear September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 Its hard to put down "X" Hp increase unless u dyno it.. but I feel ignition seems faster, pick up slightly faster, FC improved 3-5% ...it could just be mental, my right foot or etc. Initally my steering vibrated a bit more than usual but it settled down after a while... However the above could also be due to my CAI, Pivot volt stab & grounding...So it depends on wat kinda mod u want.. to improve FC or power?
Zombie Neutral Newbie September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 I agree with you on taking care of the hot air being sucked in. I guess I didn't mention that part. CAI is holding me from doing the open pod. $$$ put in for slight improvement is also true, but subjective. Don't that apply to most of the legal stuff??? I mean comparing to the illegal ones??? Robin 4th Gear September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 i tried open pod without any heat shielding. i felt it to be a bit too noisy and the power/acceleration seems to drop a bit.. could be due to the hot air trapped in my engine bay. so i went back to my original CAI config after 2 wks
Luckcent 4th Gear September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 Open pod will affect your low end torque and it also becomes louder. Not worth the money to mod this.
Robin 4th Gear September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 true... then i tried surbo, but i took out after 1 mth as it dosent really work for me... now considering E68...hee
Luckcent 4th Gear September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 Also did installed surbo in my old ride and it was found to be dangerous, so took it out.
Robin 4th Gear September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 cause redline too often will spoil the engine? I think after all the money and time spent on mods... maybe i'll save up to buy a better car .. but once start to mod, cant seem to stop... ↡ Advertisement
