Presea 3rd Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 I know Sherry and Creative....but Essex sounds British, . Don't you love XTs? Don't need HDD. Last time 1 20MB HDD, 5 1/2" .....so big....yet so small capacity. I think I got my 286 in 1987. or earlier..... I know I had all models except the 486, because we waited for the first Pentium to arrive...1994, and we got a Pentium 90MHz....still have the motherboard somewhere around. I also have a Connors 170MB....3 1/2" size.. cool huh? So what CDRW are you using now? ↡ Advertisement
Guyver 1st Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 Got a Samsung 40x12x24 (or something like that) at $90. It came with Nero Burn. One year warranty. Just as good............... Yah... i got that too... and the best things i like is that it's so quiet!! Very good... i highly recommend it!

Yongwd 1st Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 CDRW? I am using ricoh. i started overclking with
Presea 3rd Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 (edited) ...Ricoh...one of the more interesting brands. They are the first to combine CDRW with DVD right? ....overclocking... I remember the days when overclocking meant switching jumpers. Then it was flipping switches..... Now my Abit motherboard comes with Overclocking facilities in the CMOS itself. And I have to take a sharp pencil to my Duron to join the broken links.. So....what's your current CPU (and overclocked speed)? My personal best was 850 running at 977.5MHz (8.5 x 115MHz). But after a few days, my PCI soundcard as well as my AGP graphics card couldn't take it anymore... running too high a bus speed for them. Yongwd 1st Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 i use oscilator, jumpers are laterz until late 486DX2/66 i dun run overclk my file server at home, even my workstation I dont. overclking is a PC is like TC a car ... maybe

Presea 3rd Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 ...cool... actually, we know that Intel and AMD go by yield and demand....so if the yield is better, but demand for highend CPUs are low, they mark down the CPU to a lower speed bin, and those are ready to be overclocked. It is more like releasing the speed limiter of a car. It is capable of much more, without any additional mods. Maybe a larger cooler+fan....but nothing more needed. And unlike a car, an properly overclocked CPU can stably for thousands of hours and days without fear of problems. It's the first hour where problems need to be resolved. Cheers.... I've yet to find people who are still interested in hotrodding both cars and computers.

Guyver 1st Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 My home PC is now at 533Mhz... overclked from a Celeron 400Mhz... tried 570Mhz... not very stable... so bo bian... drop to 533Mhz which is stable for the last 2yrs!!
Presea 3rd Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 If it's so easy...I have spare motherboard and CeleronA 400 too....maybe I'll try to cobble that together. But my wife keeps complaining...that I have too many PCs (2desktops+1 laptop).. .if I add one more...she'll probably say I'm nuts...
Guyver 1st Gear October 27, 2002 Share October 27, 2002 Give it a shot then.... my motherboard is Abit BH6.... quite famous back then for overclocking..... and stable.... Btw.. do u run RAID at home? when i have my own house.. i'll do up a server with RAID 1 at least.... for backup....
Presea 3rd Gear October 27, 2002 Share October 27, 2002 (edited) Funny thing that you asked me ........ I actually have an Abit KT7-Raid motherboard (also good for overclocking) that is specially designed for RAIDing (without adding a RAID card)...but I've yet to spend money on the necessary HDD. I was thinking of doing RAID 0+1...since I can't do RAID 5. Yeah for back up....but most importantly for speed....RAID 0 allows for better retrieval when reading from the HDD array. RAID 1 will actually slow it down. That's why I want 0+1. I do lots of graphics work.....sometimes... I thought of getting 4 100GB WD Caviar....but the cost is quite prohibitive. So you are also into IT hardware like me...we should meet up more often... I also want to have a Car PC.... currently, when I bring my laptop along...that's my car pc I am trying to find a PSU that will run on 12V. I saw one in a UK mag...but the PSU doesn't come here. Eric19 Clutched October 27, 2002 Author Share October 27, 2002 Hi DL & All Finally bought myself a SAMSUNG CD-RW today. Model SW-240. Just finished installing the device with a bit of "hotline" help from DL Managed to burn a 256mb file so I guess it must be working...suprisingly the drive is much quieter than my CD drive. Presea 3rd Gear October 28, 2002 Share October 28, 2002 (edited) Go burn some Audio CDs.....download/rip some tracks, and compile your own drive time music.... tell us how long it takes to burn a full 74min audio... I bet it will be around 2 mins max! You should also make some ...ahem... "Legal" copies of your existing software....you'd never know when you might lose the original Your CDRW should come with CD-CD copying function. Use "disc at once", and EVERYTHING will be copied..... Oh yeah....forgot to ask you....what CDRW software did you get with the CDRW drive? Have fun, Eric! Edited October 28, 2002 by Presea
Super7 Turbocharged October 28, 2002 Share October 28, 2002 hey BillGate (singapore version), i have lots of video tapes on motor racing etc taped from SCV programmes.... would like to put them into CD for MCFists to watch.... any way of doing this cheaply???... what do outside shops charge for this conversion, if they do it at all???.......... cheers
Presea 3rd Gear October 28, 2002 Share October 28, 2002 Normally price range from $15-25 per hour.... VHS tapes right? How many do you have? If you have many, converting to VCD DIY-style, is potentially viable. Fast Computer + Video Capture Card...CDRW drive, and Video Editting software, we can do it for $0.50 per VCD (excluding sunk costs) and MCFists/ers/whatever can all go to...YOUR place to do VCD conversions! ↡ Advertisement
