Normal_aspirated Clutched November 14, 2004 Share November 14, 2004 (edited) CR = compression ratio. Worn out piston rings or valve seats, loss compression and power. 170 to 180 not very far apart, maybe can drag abit longer for next overhaul. Jiayong 3rd Gear November 14, 2004 Author Share November 14, 2004 are they really able to port and polish till totally identical? cos this figures was after a port polish job. my mech say that small differences is ok...but other forum members think that is it a big case and i shouldnt settle for anything less. Whats your opinion? Will this small difference lead to a big problem in the future?

The slight difference wont cause much problem later. maybe that (reads 170) particular valves and valve seats need to redo...... Maybe guru Genie care to comment? Slinky Neutral Newbie November 17, 2004 Share November 17, 2004 I had this prob b4 on my starlet years back. Two days b4 it broke down, heard sounds of boiling water when I off engine but still didn't suspect anything. In the end, while I was on the way to NTU from Sengkang, engine temp shot up to the reds at CCK on KJE. Had to stop the car at the road shoulder and called my dad and mechanic. Waitied abt 20min and many cars and lorries just slow down and never help. Finally got a kind ah-neh stop and help me top up radiator water and I quickly drove to NTU. 5 Hrs later, I asked my friend in NTU help check again and he topped up water for me again. This time, car only managed to last till Mandai from NTU before it shot to the reds again. Finally, mech sent tow truck to tow my car to workshop and repairs costed me almost $500++ for a new radiator, gasket, water pump, etc . After this incident, I learnt to take care and pay attention to car but it was an expensive lesson.

Common for some make of cars for them to share the same fan among radiator and aircon. That's why only when car is on the move there's air movement to cool the radiator and aircon, when you stop the car the water temp. goes up and aircon not cool. Pop open the hood and on the engine. you should be able to see the radiator fan not working.
