Octopus 3rd Gear November 21, 2004 Share November 21, 2004 I was told its a new carburator. It did came in a box with plastic wrapping. Why? is $380 too expensive? ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear November 21, 2004 Share November 21, 2004 Well, a Starlet owner bought a brand new SU for about that price as well. Is yours an SU or the original Aisan?
Octopus 3rd Gear November 22, 2004 Share November 22, 2004 Oops.....not sure if I had replied to the correct section here... Actually, I drive a Corolla G6....not Starlet. Sorry if I had posted at the wrong place..... Anyway, what's a 'SU' and what's a 'Aisan'?
Genie47 1st Gear November 22, 2004 Share November 22, 2004 Most likely your carburetor is an Aisan. The Aisan is the original carburetor that came with Toyotas.
Tsystem Neutral Newbie November 26, 2004 Share November 26, 2004 Yo bro, this may sound weird and very unlikely but i had similar problems with my air-con as you do. The air-con wasn't cold when i started my car and will normally only be cold once i hit the highway... after replacing the compressor to a recon one and a re-con cooling coil (there was apparently a leak)...the problem still persisted. After much troubleshooting, I FINALLY FOUND out that the aircon will only be cold after I hit above 60km/hr. Its weird/strange but its true. And one fine day, my Alternator gave way...it died on me... I had it replaced with a re-con one and WHAT DO YOU KNOW????........ My aircon worked perfectly after that. That might explain something? That there wasn't enough electricity generated to drive the compressor maybe? I'm no electrician so can't give you a strong detailed technical point of view... I maybe wrong also... So bro, you might want to get your alternator checked...or replaced?? Chances are remote, but it may be worth a try if all else fails.
Genie47 1st Gear November 26, 2004 Share November 26, 2004 Oy! Long time no see. How is the sleeper car?
Tsystem Neutral Newbie November 26, 2004 Share November 26, 2004 sleeper car going for major undercarriage magic tomorrow at SengTat.... damn driveshaft, powersteering... and some very scary metal banging sounds coming from below myfeet. Guess my old old ride wasn't built for such speeds plus its age....... Think I'll be changing my: - Driveshafts...the whole workz with cv boots and stuff.... - Powersteering rack - Adding an anti roll bar for the front - hope that helps strengthen the drive shaft in the future...dunno if i'm making any sense...heheee. But that's what i hope the antiroll bar would do. Minimize the vibrations from the road to the wheels to the drive shafts perhaps? Should have waited awhile more and gotten myself a picanto or aveo......sigh.... wat to do... treat it as an expensive lesson learnt
Japz Neutral Newbie December 3, 2004 Share December 3, 2004 This problem has been going for more than 4 months at least. My car's rpm sometimes goes up to 1500 during idling instead of the usual 800. It will only happen after I travelled for a distance when the car comes to a stop eg. traffic lights or slow traffic, etc....But the problem is inconsistent, sometimes have sometimes dun have, well most of the time have~~ Anyway, when this problem arise, I will have another problem: my air-con will be giving out warm air..... hot inside the car However my car temp remains normal throughout. So once I off my air-con my rpm will drop back to ard 1000 (looks normal), and I'll have to wind down my window throughout my journey without my air-con. Went to my mechanic before and he said it's something to do with this "air-con box" at my passenger seat there, not really sure what it is, and he said cos my car is a very old model, got to live with it as if want to find old spareparts is not worth the $$$.... So now I'm living with the problem and whenever it comes I'll just off my air-con and wind down my window for the journey.... Does any starlet users here got similar experiences??? Dude, I got the same problem as you quite sometime back... What happened was... everything will work fine if I'm on the move... that means the air-con will be fine, nice cool air, no hot air... and the idling will be okay... even if I stop for a short while, let say, the red-light... everything will be fine... no problem... idling will be somewhere around 900 to 1000... The problem will start once I let the car idle for a longer period of time... let say the causeway traffic jam... I noticed that the rpm will immediately shoot to 1500 or somewhere around that range.. The air-con will start blowing normal air instead of cold air... So I thought that the compressor is not doing it's job... I decided to purchase a compressor from Seeg Hup to replace my 'faulty' one.... But the problem persist after a few weeks.... but it's not as bad as the last time... so, i decided to live with it.... hehehehe So, my conclusion to the problem is that... it's not the compressor but more likely to be the aircon sensor or maybe the alternator like one of the guy mentioned above... Timoec Neutral Newbie December 5, 2004 Share December 5, 2004 bro..i've check wif ah chai...when our ride say stuck in traffic jams..air-con will becum "hotter"..due to our compressor..its so called 'piston type'...need to go above certain rpm then it'll 'activate'. Japz Neutral Newbie December 5, 2004 Share December 5, 2004 So, how to overcome this problem??? You can't expect to hold the accelerator at 2k RPM in a traffic jam... hehehe
Emperor Clutched December 5, 2004 Share December 5, 2004 Hey! Same goes for my car!! If at idle speed the air con blows hot air! But now my aircon totally gone....leaking somewhere....the gas keeps finishing...and my coil keeps having this rattling sound when the aircon is on.(if there's gas)
