Genie47 1st Gear February 24, 2005 Share February 24, 2005 How about this? Lets experiment! Ever heard of this thing call the "Double Blind Test"? We get a set of new car owners. Preferrably a pair of each make. Same engine, same transmission. We mod their cars. We seal the bonnet. They do not know what we did but must just trust us on it. On one of each pair, we put the snake oil. On the other don't put anything. Let them drive as they wish. Go Malaysia, go get groceries, drive everyday only 2km to salon. Anything a daily driver would do. Monitor their FC since all these products claim better FC. Better still, monitor using the same fuel since must have control. Monitor for a specific mileage lets say 10k km. Why a double blind test? You see, human beings are psychological creatures. We will see good when we want to see good. We will see bad when we want to see bad. The snake oil supporters obviously want to see good. The non-snake oil supporters want to see bad. So to have unbiased results, best is drivers being tested with the cars don't know what "enhancement" they have. This kind of testing is damn powerful. Eliminates people's expectations completely. Will snake oil manufacturers be willing to subject their products to double blind tests? This is a massive undertaking.

Genie47 1st Gear February 24, 2005 Share February 24, 2005 You all for it doesn't count leh. We are private car owners with no massive funding. How to do such a huge undertaking. If the snake oil vendors and supporters want to be vindicated, they should do this. Even drug companies do this. Why the snake oil vendors got to do this and not the non-snake oil supporters? Because the non-snake oil real expensive performance enhancements don't need to prove it anymore because decades of F1, rally races and drag races have already done all this. Those that do not work are not found in race engines or industry. Think of it as a sort of automotive technology Darwinism. It is evolution.
Genie47 1st Gear February 24, 2005 Share February 24, 2005 Heaty is good! No heat, not sexy. People are not active in discussion. People not passionate about the cars or performance. I will prefer heaty than cold and no excitement.
Genie47 1st Gear February 24, 2005 Share February 24, 2005 Why don't you let them try for themselves ... and if it does not work there is the full money back thingy within a month ... then they can comment on whether is is magic or not .... science or not .... whatever. If I were to sell something for a car. I will always use this sales tact. "Just install in your car first. So affordable. Not happy about the performance just take out and bring it back to me." Actually can apply for almost anything! How many people actually bring it back? It is so affordable! 100+ bucks. Less than the least expensive item of performance enhancements on LordAlfa's list. Most people just let that 100+ bucks go. Sounds so.....er con-ny?

Kytl68 Neutral Newbie February 24, 2005 Author Share February 24, 2005 Hi, u shld consider try the K& N filter, it works thou no money back offer. at least some far i have a big grps of kakis of different car make n cc (n yrs also) used them n all r happy. btw, i had long time not log into MCF n seem it has become abit "heaty" now adays. Personally, i feel it;s great to get both gd n bad feedbacks abt issues or products that anyone tried out. that's the purpose of MCF,to share n discuss. However, really dn't see a need to get workout anyway, its juz my 2 cents worth opinion. No offence. thanks for reminding me that things are heating up a little here .... just doesn't make anymore sense to post any findings here ... next time will try to keep quite regardless if it works or not ... otherwise people will pass comments rather than have a discussion.
