MIT Lancer 1.6 should be all brake disc, not rear drums.....did you just recently changed you brake pads? had a friend driving the same car, had this problem after changing pads, seems that the pads were not fixed properly.

Huh?

Does it squeak when you push down the front FENDER, or the HOOD? For my case, the HOOD noise comes from the latch. Just add some lubrication in all the connection points of your hood, ESPECIALLY where you put your hand to unlock the hood.

If its the susupension.. Usually jack your car up, or turn your wheels, and look at the struts absorber. If it is leaking oil, it'll be obvious. Repair.. maybe $300 SGD for a pair of struts. (USD converted price)

Hi hitman,

I'm beginning to believe it's the drive shaft joint(s) too as the sound only comes about after i make a turn on the steering....but after the initial few metres, it doesn't happen anymore regardless if i turn left or right...

Hopefully, it wouldn't cost me a bomb. [sweatdrop]

Any recommended workshop?

~~cheers~~

There is couple at AMK AUtopoint that you can go to.

I think Riverview is one of them. They are quite dependable. Be ready for at least a couple of hundreds of course, with labour thrown in.

Thanks for all your advises, people.

I sent in my car to the mechanic this morning. After a test drive, we still couldn't hear the sound. So, he recommended checking the brakes. This is what was found..

1) uneven surfaces on the front disc rotors - had to be skimmed.

2) front left caliper: one hook holding the brakepad is missing - had to replace.

3) rear drums had deep grooves in them - had to replace (1 pair).

4) brake pads and shoes - to replace (due to conveniences). [:p]

5) 1 slightly leaking brake pump - had to replace (i pair).

Wow...i wonder how did the previous owner drive the car??!! so many defects.

Total expenditure: $540+. Looks like no more changing of car within the next 2 years. [shakehead][shakehead][rifle]

With the new pads and shoes, i'm driving slowly now. BTW, how long does it take for them to run-in? [confused]

Thanks a million. [thumbsup]

BRAKE PAD BEDDING IN PROCEDURE

To ensure maximum performance and customer satisfaction, new brake pads must be bedded in upon installation. Correct bedding guarantees that new brake pads and new rotors work flawlessly together. In order to function optimally, organic brake pads must develop friction coal on its surface. This friction coal develops at a temperature of approximately 280
