How are the new SEAT cars? My dad's corona going to die liao, he considering changing to SEAT TOLEDO or SKODA OCTAVIA, but to me the SEAT looks nicer.

Yeah, SEAT rocks! VW took over Seat back in 1992 and since then Seat cars have been really good. There is a good following in the Delphi forums and I do hope some of them can share more of their experience in here.

The SEAT Toledo is styled by an ex-Alfa design head who also designed the 156. The dash board is similar to the Audi A3 as well.

Yah, I think the SEAT TOLEDO looks nice and the interior is very modern and neat also. Thanks for your comments [cool]

do u think the 1.6 or 1.8 is better? i see the acceleration of the 1.6 manual is faster than the 1.8 auto, why?

Most people who are shopping for either Skoda or Seat will most likely check each other makes out. Very natural since both makes are in the same class with similar prices and engine.

I for one, will go for the

- Toledo instead of the Octavia

* nicer interiors and better finishing overall

- Fabia instead of the Ibiza

* Its the Car of the Year in many countries across Europe, no need to compare.

The Octavia 1.8T has been very much in the limelight being a speed demon for an affordable price of S$110k (I think).

Overall, another thing to consider is the distributor. Barcelona being part of the Comfort Group is sturdy but heard from a Seat owner is quite F up sometimes? As for JTA, its a free-for-all wacking from the current owners in their forum. In my opinion, probably both equally bad but Barcelona is much more stable in terms of the sustainability. Seat owners and Skoda owners (esp Fabiaman), care to comment?

I rode along with my buddy who test drove both Toledo 1.8 and Octavia 1.8T and I must say the overall build quality and trim levels of the Toledo is much better. The Octavia excels in the excellent VW derived 1.8T, too bad it didn't make it on the Toledo.

Thatone, not to worry, the Cupra though is not avaliable [:/], Barcelona Motors is selling the Cupra badge for just $15.

Hardware not Cupra never mind, got emblem on the backside also can. [;)]

U itchy for a Cupra? Hee.....I read that there's a Cupra 180bhp 20V Turbo and also a Cupra R pushing 210bhp! Barcelona salesman did hinted that if a Cupra would come to our island it'll be around 130k!

Consider they must market the Cupra side by side with the Octavia 1.8T equivalent and the OCT definitely win hands down in pricing.

Not sure about the trim levels of the Cupra yet, so let's see if it comes. Btw, I'm talking about the Leon Cupra.

Hi everyone ..

I am new here, currently driving a 97 Seat Ibiza Salsa. I have test drive both the new Cordoba and the New Ibiza. Both is very impressive on the comfort and handle the road very well. Very temped to trade in my current Ibiza for them. But I personally still prefer the new Ibiza as it is very much more powerfull and just love the way it take on the road and curve, [cool]

Have read about the latest 5th generation of Ibiza. Can't wait for them to reach here. If only LTA would to approve Diesel engine here, then I go for the turbo diesel version. Basically the Ibiza is a very nice car to drive if you do not require a big boot like the Toledo and the Cordoba. The other car that I like is the Skoda Fabia voted as the Super Mini.

Cheers

Hi Sam,

There will be a Ibiza Cupra as well right? Donno whether Barcelona will bring in the Cupra range of SEATs since it's more ex but performance is definitely a plus! [cool]

Neutral Newbie

Hi!

I see that SEAT does kick up some interest in SG!! ( Just hope that more people could 'experience' it themselves )

As an existing owner of Toledo, I must say that boy... I love my ride! :)

I test drove the Bora, Octovia and Toledo, and finally I settle for Toledo for the following reasons: - Price, Look and the Built.

The price is about 20% less than a Bora, the look is more handsome that a Octavia, and finally you get the built quality from VAG!

I have a 1.6L manaul unit, and after 2 months, my dad got his with 1.8L auto.

He was skeptical when I bought my car, but he was so impressed that he decided to get one for himself.

THe 1.6L is torquey in the low and mid range but is short of breath on the higher rpm which is good for normal city driving. The 1.8L 20V has a variable valve tech and comes lively after 4000+rpm. Personnally, I would love the 1.8 engine coupled with a manual gear ( a manaul freat, hate those autos). It's slightly more nosiey in the 1.8L but hey, I love those pistons pumping!!

IMHO, my advise with any Toledo-would-be owner to consider the following.

Get Barcelona Motor to import the 1.8L Manual. The auto option is a $5K option!

Take a 1.6L(manual) add $5K, is almost equavalent to 1.8L (auto) less $5K.

I have raise this queries to the sales guy and he said that not much of trouble, except for additional few hundred bucks to go thru LTA ( because all 1.8L model are auto in SG).

My only regret is not considering this option any much earlier!! ( sobs..sobs)

Maintenance has been quite minimal till date ( 6 mths but with @ 20,000kms !!) other than the scheduled services.

A good site for reference with be at the following URL : http://www.seatcupr.net

I'd a few mods and is looking for more ( a Cupra4 front and skirts ) and chipping is also under my to-do list.

It would be great to meet other 'car-nut' with the same passion!!

Till then do drop me a mail @ [email protected], I would love to meetup or show with other fellow 'car-nuts'.

Alios Amigo!

Mel
