I tried it with the showroom cars at Regent ... by using just enough strength to push the door past the recoil spring ... result was the door did not slam shut completely. I guess the door was simply too light ... However, since you have tried with your car ... I would say maybe its really the hinge thingy with the showroom car. Anyway, the finish quality on the Focus is not up to Japanese cars, found 2 "pimples" on the first day (paint bubble), one slight depression at the door frame. Service advisor at Regent admitted straight away it was a production problem. So, which car have u booked? (sorry have not been following the trhead. This is my first login after 8-10 days). That's really something new ... but I am glad you said so. I have not booked any car yet. Went to look at SEAT and wanted a Toledo 1.8 (M), but BM was not able to import the model at a reasonable price. My choice is now back to Octavia 1.8T or Focus. Just spoke to JTA this evening, will visit them next weekend to see the situation. If I feel good, I may just take the risk and go for Skoda, otherwise I will hang on for the moment. Myfocus Neutral Newbie February 24, 2002 Share February 24, 2002 To be fair, the only Jap cars I've driven within the past 5 years are the asthmatic Camry 2.2, 3.0 Cefiro, 2.x 626 (not the 2.0). So perhaps the comparision is unfair (I'm comparing an entry level car against the upper-end models of the upper-end-of-the-spectrum. Have not looked at the recent Jap 1.6 cars, so perhaps my comparision was harsh. Personally, the paint blemishes don't bother me, so long as it's not rusty I'm ok. The engine, gearbox, suspension (ie the driving experience) are what counts to me. I used to drive with the windows down just to enjoy the engine music. I made the remark about the finish because I was just surprised to see it. I haven't gone back to Regent to rectify it. I'll trade bodywork finish for the driving pleasure anytime. (Looking back, perhaps that's why I don't participate in the detailing section of this forum....) The engine and gearbox seems to be getting used to me and the missus. Last time, when floored, it would always change at 4Krpm. This weekend, it went up to 5.5Krpm, also seems to beholding the gear changes till later. Let's see how it goes. The pimples were not miserable tales, just an observation. No miserable tales :-) I guess how important the finish to you depends on your priorities. One thing I like is the use of the key to open the bonnet. No more fears of a broken cable, no more jury-rigging up an emergency release cable! Air intake is right under the leading edge of the bonnet, as close as you can get to a CAI without the DIY tubing and risk of water induction. Not bad...... Took the family out for a drive today. Still pleased with the performance while cruising. The tall gears make driving at speed limit effortless, although fast acceleration requires disabling the overdrive (analogous to dropping a gear or two) since the kickdown response is typical (ie not specific to focus only) of automatic cars. The engine is pretty free revving up to redline, although a bit noisy but its not strained. Far better than the Laser I tried :-) Decent handling at old u. thomson road. Body roll is about the same as the 206 or my old stiffened suzuki, impressive given it's tall height. Stiffening and lowering would help, but the missus wouldn't be amused. Diver Neutral Newbie March 3, 2002 Share March 3, 2002 (edited) Nope ... window safety feature as per following: Toledo - only driver's window Oct 1.8T - two front windows only Focus - all four windows I am not sure about VW and Audi ... maybe the others can tell us. Sorry! Mis-info above. Toledo has safety window feature for both front windows (same as Skoda). The SE gave me the wrong info previously. Today, I tested it and found that it work on both front windows. Btw, booked my Toledo 1.6 (M) today. Wish me luck!
