Greetings to all fellow Altis owners,

Just checking with you guys again. My car got 2 annoyance which I am very unhappy with.

Service engineers claim that it's normal so I just want to check if it really is common in all Altises.

1. Foul Aircon Smell - This I understand is "normal"... but anyway to get rid of it permanently?

2. Loud ticking sound from undercarriage after driving - Exiting my park vehicle after driving I can hear like metalic sound ticking from the undercarriage. Something to do with the thermal contraction from the metal parts under the car as the Service Engineer claimed.

Do your cars have similar issues too?

Air con foul smell is very normal for most of the cars - this is due to the evaporator is getting more and and compact in size due to design of dashboard and the heat exhange demand is getting higher ( comfor demand by user). To remove the growth of fugus and bateria in the evaparator unit, the best practice is to switch of the compressor when you are about to reach your destination and allow the blow to continue blowing. Regular servicing and cleaning and changing of filters is a must for healty clean air

Metal will expand and contract when subjected to change of temperature - so there is nothing to worry when the undercarriage start giving some ticking sounds.

Regarding your foul aircon smell, how long have u been driving the car? I had my previous City for >3 yrs, no aircon filter, and there are no foul smell at all. So, this is definitely not normal, IMO.

For point 1....bear with it loh....BM will not be able to help you. I myself also got this problem. But for point 2, just complain to the SA that you are hearing some ticking sound from under the dashboard, they will know what is the problem and will change it for you. The item is the brake boost valve. Original is plastic....after changed is metal. And I dont have the sound anymore.

now I very confusing leh [confused] . Some say because of the thermal contracting which is normal and some say because of the brake boost valve. So how to differential the two??? Any experts can advise......

The rollas that BM sell don't come with air-con filter. When I put in one myself, the foul smell is reduced drastically and the blowers stopped blowing a lot of dust into the cabin.

No need to buy original as it is way too expensive.

I paid more than 70 for the original. [mad]

After that, start DIYing using 3M filter meant for home air-con. Think they are selling for 20+ at NTUC and DIY shops. One pack can cut and use many times. cheap cheap [inlove]

No advise for your other problem though.

G9 come with the filter tray but then Altis doesnt come with it and Altis need to cut something before inserting the tray. I was told that this will void the warranty. So I dare not do it.....

I did have the plastic brake valve booster's problem of ticking sound coming from under the dashboard when the brakes are applied too.

This as you mention is resolved after they change it to a metal one.

But the ticking I'm refering to is from the UNDERCARRIAGE of the car. For example after driving.. I stop and park my car, exit my vehicle... and there I can hear some metalic ticking sound coming from the bottom of the vehicle. Sounds very annoying, as if something is spoilt... [:(]
