Flee Neutral Newbie August 22, 2008 Share August 22, 2008 Now done close to 5K on Redline. Felt that Amsoil is smoother and quieter compared to Redline. Redline feels too thin for me, despite both at -30 viscocity. Mileage wise, Redline is slightly better, but dunno whether it's the oil or the road conditions. Bottomline, it's almost sama sama. Next OCI, i will prob go back to Amsoil, being cheaper and to me, smoother. ↡ Advertisement
Karie Neutral Newbie August 22, 2008 Share August 22, 2008 I have used redline and RP in my previous ride. In my current ride, I've used Shell and currently cxxxxxe. I find cxxxxxe 5w30 as good as RP or redline, with shell (no-no). Some prefer this brand of oil some prefer another brand of oil basically is just the 'BRANDING' that ppls think is GOOD.....to me all sama sama anyway u still need to drain out the 'GOOD' oil @ 10K interval
Wakk0 Neutral Newbie August 22, 2008 Share August 22, 2008 4qt is enough for 1.8 Civic, for 2.0 Civic you will need 4.5qt. MCF is not accepting order for Amsoil? I like to buy 4 bottles if you hv? or anyone hv? My servicing is end of this month.. Need it urgently.. ;) Thanks.
Boyboy 1st Gear August 22, 2008 Share August 22, 2008 you are wrong some cars specify longer svc intervals, like 15k anyway, for good synthetic oil (not karloob), can stretch OCI to 15k IMHO, IF using stock paper filter. but of course provided u cover 15k in 6 mths. otherwise best to change every 6 mth regardless of mileage. in that case shd just use the cheapest whatever oil
Karie Neutral Newbie August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Ya some car might specify longer svc intervals....but is better to svc around 10K As for 15K OCI Karloob do have a LONGLIFE oil 5w30 if im not wrong to stretch to 15K is not an issue... Boyboy 1st Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 u sound like a karloob clone i tried the longlife, triple R. all suck big time i will recommend schaeffer's instead
Karie Neutral Newbie August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Wat karloob clone.... well u r schaeffer's supporter so any other branded oil u also find it NO good
Boyboy 1st Gear August 24, 2008 Share August 24, 2008 mobil one not bad, redline damn good only karlube sux la.. but ok for those who ultra low mileage, 6 mth travel less than 10 k. that i will admit might as well just go for the cheapest crap oil

Currently, using redline 5w30 for the 1st time. Is amsoil really better?
Boyboy 1st Gear August 25, 2008 Share August 25, 2008 confirm redline n amsoil shd be better than budget supermarket oil la but redline or amsoil better? i wun know. never use amsoil before.
Powerhouse Clutched August 25, 2008 Share August 25, 2008 True, very true. I never buy from supermarket. I tried Redline cos of the Ester polymer While Motul have Double ester polymer. This gives enginer much more edge in engine protection.

Boyboy 1st Gear August 25, 2008 Share August 25, 2008 how i know them? for my cheepo korean ride, it shears after 5k. maybe BMW engine more tok kong got different requirements? well, if i can afford BM, i wun have to scrimp on oils.
Weichien Clutched August 25, 2008 Share August 25, 2008 many workshops use mobile 1 oils. what do u guys think about mobile 1? good?
Boyboy 1st Gear August 25, 2008 Share August 25, 2008 i feel it's overpriced and overhyped la. but decent for everyday use i bought it at $10 per quart on offer at giant. unbeatable value. no offer 18.90 per quart if u like thick oil, then the 15w-50 "racing" formula 5 liter bottle selling at hypermarts might be good. but i prefer the 10w-30 which sells by the quart. and then only when on offer

Karie Neutral Newbie August 26, 2008 Share August 26, 2008 I got a friend dad driving BMW 520 using Karlube 5w40 and change oil @ 15K also no problem.... ↡ Advertisement
