Chucky2007 Turbocharged July 23, 2007 Share July 23, 2007 (edited) there are some workshops offering amsoil... http://www.cruxoil.com/DEALERS.html u can check their workshop details here but i have never go to anyone of them for servicing before, so good or not i dun know... For me, i bought 1 carton of Amsoil 10w30 from MCF and i bring the oil to my own mechanic at Esso station along Lavender Street. Have been with him for the past 60000km. his price is reasonable and he is pretty good at his job. Depends on what's yr car model, he may or may not have yr car's original oil fiter. He workshop is using Mobil1 and Esso Engine oil (Esso station so of course is these 2 brand). He has done Timing/aircon belt, water pump, fuel filter change, ATF flushing etc.. all those more complicated job i go to him For simple job like oil and filter change... i go JB.. cheap cheap.. but i always bring my own oil and oil filter.. just pay for labour charge only.. less than RM18. PM me if u want my mechanic's details. Edited July 23, 2007 by Chucky2007
Chucky2007 Turbocharged July 23, 2007 Share July 23, 2007 unless yr car is those turbo charge, rotary engine, NA race car, most car can take RON92 minimal. just curious why is yr 1st servicing at 1600km instead of 1000km? the first interval is short not just for your car.. most of the cars are like this also. the 1st 2 engine oil drains are mainly for the reason that new engines produce more metal debris.. therefore after 1000km, oil change is done to remove all those rubbish.. then at another 4-5000km later, further rubbish will be removed.. bec of such short drain interval, mineral oils are typically used. Of course u can choose to use Fully synthetic at 1000km, and at 5000km again.. but not so friendly to yr wallet only. bec it is very important to change oil at 1000km, do note that even if you change to fully synthetic at 1000km, it is still advisable to change again at 5000km. personally i would suggest that u chnage out yr oil for the 1st time at 800km or 1000km instead of 1600km.. a bit more kiasu for new cars will never be wrong. Chucky2007 Turbocharged July 23, 2007 Share July 23, 2007 Hey folks, sorry I'm a noob, so have lotsa qns here. I'm going for my first servicing (1600km) soon. Is it advisable to change to synthetic oil? Will Amsoil be good for engines that are running in? My engine capacity is very small, just 658cc. So is Amsoil suitable for such engines? How many bottles do I need for each servicing? Lastly, what's the recommended grade for my engine? Dunno what 5w-30 etc. means... As I said, I'm a noob. Any help is deeply appreciated. Hi tiek, try to take a look at this website, hope it can help clear some of your questions... http://www.carbibles.com

Oriki Neutral Newbie July 25, 2007 Share July 25, 2007 any1 using or had used Amsoil and felt (butt feel) the oil can't last till 10k? I'm using amsoil 5w30. Feels the engine is rough after 6K. Could it be because I had used Xrev 5w30 previously and had not done engine flush? I was told before this could be the problem... thx in advance
Darkblue 1st Gear July 26, 2007 Share July 26, 2007 Bro, You using the XLF Amsoil 5W30 or ASL Amsoil 5W30 As far as I know users from US, ASL 5W30 can last 15000 miles (abt 24000km) under SEVERE conditions
Oriki Neutral Newbie July 27, 2007 Share July 27, 2007 I'm using ASL 5w30.. could it be my stock sparkies? but I had it changed at 50K, now at 58K.

Defelio Neutral Newbie July 27, 2007 Share July 27, 2007 Does that mean you would change oil only or around 40000km instead of the usual 10000km? 25 000 mile = 40 233.6 kilometer
Polkadots 2nd Gear July 27, 2007 Share July 27, 2007 Hi All, I am also first time user of Amsoil because it is not available until recently. Surprised to find it at mxxxxxxxg coz I thought it's some MLM stuff not easily available. I am driving a Civic 2ltr Manual and since my 1k servicing I have been trying out different engine oil: 1k servicing: German Castrol 30 rating It's quite viscous, accordingly, for a 30 rating oil. Initial consumption so-so. My average mileage is about 11.5 to 12 km/ltr. Consumption towards 8k starts to improve. I think the oil is thinning. Engine tone wise, nothing spectacular, pretty quiet. 11k servicing : Splurged a little, used Redline 30 rating I didn't like it from the start. Consumption is average still but I dun find it particularly smooth rev. Engine tone also not spectacular, a little noisier than the german castrol. 21k servicing: wanted to use back german castrol but no stock, surprised to see Amsoil, got 10w-30 rating, same price as german castrol and cheaper than Redline. what I can say is WOW. Immediately, there is a difference. engine is silky and willing when reved and the tone is a nice contented purr. on my second tank petrol now, consumption for the first tank is above average (12.5km/ltr) but not the best (I have done 13.65km/ltr once). Yes, it may be because my engine has been ran in properly now. The critical mileage should be after 6k km of use, will keep monitoring for now. Liking it so far. Carowner Neutral Newbie October 21, 2007 Share October 21, 2007 (edited) What are the main differences between the two grades other than oil interval change is different? I am new to this oil and is considering this for my next oil change Edited October 21, 2007 by Carowner
Carowner Neutral Newbie October 21, 2007 Share October 21, 2007 How is Chemlube doing in your ride? ARe you referring that Chemlube is a local company with a US address? i'm now on Chemlube, 10W-30, the guys selling it don't believe me that it is a Singaporean company with a US address, whilst it is mixed either in SG or regionally. My engine runs to a sweet simple tone. I try not to revv too hard on this though, because the protection is slightly less.
Darkblue 1st Gear October 21, 2007 Share October 21, 2007 XL grades can last 6 months, whereas the ATM,ASL can last 1 year
Chucky2007 Turbocharged October 29, 2007 Share October 29, 2007 i am currently using Amsoil ATM 10w30 too, been using this rating for the past 2 oil change, i am also very satisfied with it! only thing is i need 5minute to warm up engine every morning.. driving me crazy especially when rushing for time. Gonna change to the Amsoil ASM 0w20 next change so that i dun need to warm up engine for so long.. maybe just 1-2 minute will do if using 0w20
Solar Turbocharged November 14, 2007 Share November 14, 2007 i've read through the whole thread.. this oil sounds good. but not much mention about better fuel consumption, or is it no diff? also, seems good for one bro's lpt volvo, but how about hpt (high pressure turbos) like lgt or wrx? is a 10w30 too thin? and what's recommended change-out for sg climate, really over 15-25k ah? possible for turbos? this thread is over 4 yr old.. any user can comment, if you have been using so long?
