Should I get 5W30 or 10W30 for Sunny FL?

Both are 30wt and has very similar viscosity, no diff between the 2 in our weather condition.

I'm also an Amsoil user. Bought 4 Quarts 6 months back from MCF and had the oil change done. Now about 11k km on this so-called 25k mile (40k km) oil. Was wondering whether any bros out there have actually extended the use of this oil to more than 10k km?

Singapore's driving condition is classified as severe and extended OCIs are not recommended unless you are pretty sure the oil is still fine by doing an UOA.

 

The 40K OCI is only applicable if you used Amsoil's oil filter.

 

At the end of the day, Amsoil still recommends sticking with manufacturer's recommended OCI.

my AMSoil 10w30 i used for 12000km.. never did any UOA though but is definitely still good when i changed it out. i changed it out bec i still left 8bottles left at that time (bought whole carton), and was eager to change out faster so i can finish 10w30 and try the 0w20, now finally on AMSoil 0w20..

 

but the 10w30 is still better than 0w20 in my type of usage. i always warm up engine for at least 4minutes no matter what rating i use. even for 0w20 i also warm up this long, so i dun really need much cold start protection. while travelling continuous for 30-50km, the 10w30 is smoother (or should i say the 0w20 is too thin, engine seems to rev to much unecessarily). but Fc on 0w20 definitely is better, i changed my tyre from 185/65r14 to 205/45r16 but fc remains the same..

For our climate, dont really think our engine required any warm up before move out.

 

Idling do more harm to the engine. But then modern car will automatic rev the engine rpm higher during cold start to ensure engine oil being carries to the cylinder.

in fact looking that the vis of these 2 oils, at higher temp, based on the AMSOIL reports, the difference is only negligable...

lm driving a 3 yrs old 350z...can l get 5w20? anyone knows of any workshop tat knows how to service this car?

Does the ASL or ATM make any difference? What does it stand for?

The "W" are winter rating. What it means is that the 5w will flow faster than the 10w in Winter condition. In our coldest morning maybe 25'c, both 5w & 10w will probably flow around the same rate with 5w abit faster.

If all else being equal(doesn't really apply to modern synthetic), a mineral 10w which contain lower % of VII will be more shear stable then a 5w oil.

 

CCS Vis is measure at 15w(-20'c), 10w(-25'c), 5w(-30'c) & 0w(-35'c)

 

For example

ASL 5w30 CCS Vis@-30'c = 5322

 

ATM 10w30 CCS Vic@-25'c = 4034

0w20 is too thin for your car....5w30 or 10w30 is a better choices

Hi noob here,

 

I'm using amsoil 5w30 now from 20K-30K. Am thinking of sticking to amsoil but have no idea which grade to change to have smoother and quieter engine.

 

I normally rev less than 3k , driving a FL-Vios and stockie.

 

Should I change to 0w20? or? Need advice.

Why not? Your engine was designed to run on 20wt,

I drove to genting and back on Redline's 10w30, average speed 150 km/h, now engine still purring and due for 30k soon. Purring is subjective though

Hi my car is about 4 yrs now and about due for 120k. Should I be looking at 0w40 or 0w30? Can my car still use the 30 ratings? Any bros advise? Thanks in advance
