.

looks like im the only one who seem to suffer using amsoil 5w40...i wonder if its the "european formula" bottle that is not suitable for my lancer... :(

Fyi. 5W40 / European version is too thick for your lancer. If you read carefully the instruction note behind the bottle.

This oil design for Turbo / Supercharge engine. I would suggest you to try the 'SSO 0w30' or 'ASL 5w30'.

My friend who drove a civic- ES, he also a very happy customer of amsoil - SSO 0w30. Oil change ~ 10k [laugh]

Its mainly the additive package as well as the certification. Conti brands usually have their own certification one. Eg. BMW LongLife04 and Merc also have. Thus the oil is tested by these companies and certified to meet their requirements

Currently on Amsoil SSO, no complains about this oil. Got its pros and cons. For the pros, the oil is very lasting, with 7500km, the engine still sound very quiet. No rough feeling or sound. Weekly check the dip stick, oil level, no sign of any drop in oil level. The SSO engine oil color also won't darken as quick as other engine oil. Overall, I feel this oil is design for those looking for extended mileage and protection with average engine performance. Previously using, Redline 5W40, although it's a weight 40 oil, I felt that it's more willing to rev then the weight 30 SSO. But the Redline oil do can pretty rough around the mark of 6k plus mileage mark.

am using this too.. FC is average. but it really can last the full 10k without a single bit of deterioration. engine not rough.. FC doesn't change throughout. after all its meant to last 50,000km if using the EA filter. intend to change it out at 12k.

the best oil to use, i feel, is still mobil 0w40, the local version (not the MX versions).. FC better than SSO by at least 0.5km/L

I dunno.. that y i ask here.. [:p]

On the spec / paper said that 5W40 is for Turbo / supercharge engine, where 10W40 is the Premium Protection grade to protect the long mileage engine.

The diff between Amsoil AMO 10w40 and AFL 5w40 are AMO 10w40 are loaded with extra ZDDP for high load operation, so FC wise, AFL 5w40 should be better while protection wise AMO 10w40 will be better.

Just to highlight one thing.

!!DO NOT USE AMO 10W40 IF YOU CAR IS NEW!!

This oil is APM:SL because the ZDDP inside the oil is higher than limits for API:SM. I don't know if the extra zinc will damage the cat or not but its safer not to use it. If you fail inspected because of the cat, its going to cost you $$$ to change it.

No worries unless you be burning hell alot of oil if API SL oil are able to kill your cat.

bro, my opc pica seldom go pass 6-7k before oil change. was on Amsoil for sometime and i find the oil from Amsoil is more liquid as compare to RL. Amsoil sound a bit rougher then RL too just after oil change. So i think the Amsoil will be more rough as compare?
