Wymun Neutral Newbie January 2, 2005 Share January 2, 2005 Hmmm...Dunno why, but after having gotten the Legacy GT, seem to be having extraveneous encounters with racers: Encounter #1 Just last night, when I was driving home with my wife from Corrinne May's concert at the Esplanade, along AYE towards Jurong. Was on the 1st lane when I spotted 2 bright blue-beams in my rear-view mirror coming fast, overtaking vehicles like Daytona. I couldn't immediately move to the 2nd lane, cos got vehicle there and in front of me was a Merc. So watched for a while as he approached. Was a previous-gen Toyota Corona and then he tried some maneuvering stunts from the left to overtake. But in the end, he also couldn't get round cos lanes on left were all full. Eventually, I managed to siam to the left and he just roared down the 1st lane, with a Honda hatchback close behind his heels, tailing him at only 1m away!! Those jokers were racing on expressway like Sepang. Can't believe how some chaps could disregard safety of people's lives around them just to satisfy their own ego-trips, or settle their own personal vendettas. Oh well. But having said that, the chap didn't flash me from the rear, though I saw him doing that to other cars before his approach. Maybe he had some "respect" for the LGT as a car afterall... Encounter #2 Actually, had another encounter on my 3rd day I got my LGT. Was on 25th Dec and in Orchard Road, together with my wife and parents fresh from a Christmas lunch. Upon turning left past California Gym, suddenly heard the sound of an exhaust like a Harley. Lo and behold, before me was a yellow Pagani Zonda at the lights, revving his engine like it was about to race. I stopped beside it and spotted a young chap inside. The youngster inside must have felt threatened with a LGT beside it, cos he gave me a glare and continued with an even more extensive revving spree (must have burnt up a lot of fuel in the process). He was obviously trying to attract attention. Everyone round Orchard Road was staring at our direction - heh, I wonder if they were looking at my new LGT or his noisy Pagani. My parents all shook their heads at the youngster in the car, citing how this chap had an ego larger than his car. In the end, it took off with a loud high-pitched roar. But IMHO, it didn't seem to have the launching power behind it for such a loud car, or it could be the driver...Like it took a mighty lot of revs to even move the car that much. ↡ Advertisement
Devmeister Neutral Newbie January 2, 2005 Share January 2, 2005 from your posting i think you are the one with the ego larger than your car. 1) the LGT isn't any super car what makes you think people respect you more than the other cars? 2) seriously, no one will bother whether your LGT is 1min old or 1 century old when there's a zonda beside you. 3) i doubt from both encounters anyone was trying to race you like in your post title. you probably haven seen nice cars around but i can tell you the LGT is a good car but you have probably taken it too high a notch. Oneofakind Neutral Newbie January 2, 2005 Share January 2, 2005 Lets just say the GT would attract the attention of Schumacher wannabes more easily than your average executive car Personally, I encountered Legacy GT challengers twice.........introduced the term "Sleeper Swede" to them
Wymun Neutral Newbie January 2, 2005 Author Share January 2, 2005 (edited) Hmm..Ok. I shan't say no more. Didn't know I will get flamed as such - just relating my experiences...Perhaps I may have misinterpreted the situation?? Certainly, the LGT is no fight for the Zonda - totally different class. My statement was meant in jest, of those who were watching along the roads. Of course, they were looking at the Pagani, especially with the revs it was making. I merely wanted to highlight that the chap was for some strange reason, really trying to attract attention with his over-exuberant revving?? And I am definitely no racer, neither do I view the LGT as one. As you can see from my posts, I would shy away from anyone who picks a challenge. Just wanted to share what I've seen on the road, since I've gotten my LGT?? As a point of clarification, the title simply means my encounters with racers around me, since I've gotten my LGT... Wymun Neutral Newbie January 2, 2005 Author Share January 2, 2005 Heh. Glad that I wasn't one of the LGTs that got introduced... In any case, like I said, I do not race. I'm more than willing to let any vehicle overtake me, be it vans or taxis.

Oneofakind Neutral Newbie January 2, 2005 Share January 2, 2005 The legacy GT is quite a quick car , no doubt about it. Alot of bang for the buck . And the sound system . But I am more of a sleeper meatball fan Zonda? Probably needed to keep the revs up to keep from stalling or the fella had poor clutch control? It is the rare driver who can use the potential of a Zonda, the majority are just rich poseurs.....the equipment is there but the ability to control and the balls to drive it to the limit are absent . Any idiot can drive fast in a straight line....well perhaps launching something as powerful as the Zonda takes skill and practise. Shooting off the line against an auto car (even the Legacy GT) is really lame....he should try with some of the 400hp STIs and EVO8 MRs....these will sent the rich punk crying for his mommy. Hmm...maybe even a well driven STI or Evo8MR will already cause the Zonda much embarassment Anyway with power comes great responsibility. We should not stoop to the same levels as the stupid ah-beng big balls small brains mentality and weave in and out of traffic ala fast and furious . Of course if however the road is clear of traffic or empty or better yet across the causeway....and a dumb beng wants to try his chop shop special....its another story altogether Take care.
