My personal experiencs as a used car components importers/ wholesales seller it that basically most of the operators do not want car owners to come and buy parts. The reaons is simple - time consumimg, they are not sure of what they want and they are not handy at all.

All my buyers are people who operates component recond business - they know what they want and they do thier own dismantling, selection , make payment without any bargining (they know the market rate) load the the goods to thier vehicles and thereafter never will call to complaint on the products.

Hmm... Ok... I can do the above - Own selection, dismantling, and selection. I know the prats I want, just looking for a place to get it. As for the market price, how would I know if the market price is being charged? Btw, u open such a place is it? Maybe I can go to your shop [sly] My trip yesterday got postponed cus of some issues [:(]

Thats quite true, however I have been to scrapyards and they welcome visitors to look around. in fact the customer service was quite good! reminded me abit of NTUC where everything is arranged according to parts. But for first timers I suggest u go there with a specific part that you are looking for.

Yes maybe the mode of operation and method of selling have change since 1993. Most maybe are going for direct retail sales, maybe a day will come where you can bid for them or buy direct from ebaySpore or Yahoo Spore

I used to go to the one in sugei kadut. Look for a guy called ah yam. He help me alot with 3 bumpers and an instrument panel for my elantra '92. He's usually very busy, but if you manage to get him, he's very helpful, cos new cars are being scrapped there all the time.

If u got e tel nos, u can even call them in advance to check if they have e parts u want & e price.

So far, i find all of them very helpful. BUT u must know what u want. Don't waste their time with unclear questions on e phone.

I pick up quite alot of parts from them as the price difference compared to a new part is unbelieveable for most parts.

They normally have parts for cars older than 3 years as this is when most Japanese will scrap their cars b4 thier inspection ( like our viacom inspection).

Nowadays they also carry alot of Merc & conti parts as well.
