Dunno Neutral Newbie January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 (edited) I'm near 60k km mileage and just cleaned my K&N filter yesterday. After spraying on the cleaning liquid and letting it settle for 10 mins, then I use water host to spray lightly from the clean side in, dirty side out direction. I can see all the dirt coming out, my whole sink filled with black water, plus got a bug stuck in the filter. 3.5 yrs without cleaning! God knows what's stuck in that filter! Jusnel 6th Gear January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 bro, dun worry lah.. i have used K&N filter before for 3 and half years. it's v sturdy filter. wont spoil easily. i have NEVER clean my filter at all for 3 and half years. and it never fails me at all. engine is always v responsive, temp. is always v low (needle at one third to one quarter mark) the wire mesh had not rusted at all, though i never oil it at all. i had my filter from a friend and he also advised me to just use water and wash it. that's all. no need to use the whatever oil. but of course, if you are v concerned, then go get the K&N cleaning kit. Jusnel 6th Gear January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 like i said, i'm lucky! (with God's blessings) seriously, i never clean it at all. the metal wire mesh not rusted at all. i just keep using it, until i sold it to another bro, coz i scrapping my previous car. i dunno how can it can last so long without cleaning. and my engine never give any problem at all. FC is v good. (14km/L, RPM responsive, Temp. is v low). maybe my workshop does the cleaning for every servicing. i dunno........ but of course, cannot use my experience to try on yr own car. play safe, better clean it regularly. Jusnel 6th Gear January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 If that's the case, why K&N claims that it will save fuel? save fuel or not, depends on yr right foot lah. coz the engine rev more easily, drivers tend to whack the pedal. (normal human behaviour - want to feel like F-1 driver mah). but one thing for sure for K&N filter is that yr engine temp. will be lower. so that's a good point about K&N filter. this works for my previous ride. Vtim 3rd Gear January 24, 2005 Share January 24, 2005 If that's the case, why K&N claims that it will save fuel? it will save fuel if you drive like before you install the k & n, but most people after installing the k & n will tend to drive with a little more 'heavy' right foot then before cause it's much more fun driving now, if you know what I mean
Vtim 3rd Gear January 24, 2005 Share January 24, 2005 if I dun leave the oil to soak through overnight and just put it in straight, will it be ok? if you are very sure that you didn't over-oiled the filter, then it's ok, else the excess oil will get coated onto the Air-flow sensor & screw it up
Vtim 3rd Gear January 24, 2005 Share January 24, 2005 Actually, as long as the filter is not too dirty, you can carry on using it, I only clean mine once every 3 yrs also . So you had those k & n on your carb car, that's one of the best setup as the filter is directly on top of the throttle body

Vtim 3rd Gear January 25, 2005 Share January 25, 2005 in the long run, if there are too many oil that get coated onto the air sensor, than the ECU will have problem detecting the actual amount of air flow & it's screw up the idling & also running of the engine. If your engine runs ok, that means the k & n filter is not over oiled
