If you like to believe in Malaysia Boleh! I suggest you check out the Petronas Syntium 5000 SM 0W40.

See here: http://www.mymesra.com.my/...p;pg=128&ac=2363

API rated SM, ILSAC GF4 but MB 229.1 only. Not cheap at RM198/4L.

1. I visited my uncle in Jakarta and he happened to operate a Motor workshop. In his store, I could hardly see engine oil of 5W40 not to mention 5W30. According to him the most commonly used premium lube are the Mobile 5W50, Helix 10W40. STP, Top One and SPC are also popular. The Indonesian usually use thicker oil like 10W40, 15W40 and so on. The only 5W30 that I could find at other workshop is Pennzoil and is selling like S$64 for 4L.

2. Honda City is a very popular sedan in Jakarta! Imagine these cars are using 10W40 or 5W50 and some even on 15W40.

3. He is actually quite surprise that we in Singapore are using thin lube. He gave me a bottle of Helix 10W40, which I'm not sure if I should use it for my next oil change. I'm currently on Delphi 5W40. Do you know how much is the retail price for Helix 10W40?

I dunno about Helix 10W40. Hardly buy oil from Big Oil anymore. If you are looking for a nice hydrocracked 10W40. Conoco Hydroclear Super All Season has a 10W40. I think on S$34. You can get it from a shop from Yung Soon Auto Supply at 24 Upper Weld Road.

People in Texas and Florida use 5W30. Those using those Ford F150 trucks use 5W20. Australians like their oil thick. They usually use 50wts because they tow a lot of things. Europeans like 40wts because they whack autobahn but increasingly, as the oil technology is getting better, they are using A3 and A5 spec'd 30wts.

1. No lah, I still look forward to use RP 5W30 for my next oil change at 10K.

2. What is your opinion of Indonesian using a thicker oil? I guess, since Indonesian enjoy the cheapest petrol price in the world, they probably don't bother so much about fuel economy.

I guess so but then again, Europeans don't enjoy cheap gas and they heck care about fuel economy. Americans get cheap gas but care about fuel economy because laws prevent car makers from selling cars if they don't meet fuel economy standards.

I thought people in the west are very concern about "going green"? They even trying to ban SUVs from entering the city in Europe and States.

Their gahment already think they are very green already by lumping large amounts of petrol tax on car owners. Much like Singapore. Don't drive car = green dizzy.gif.

Even then, we're not getting good pricing for green cars. Look at Hong Kong, their taxi and minibus are using LPG.

You know why LPG works for them. Because they are committed to get more refueling stations for LPG. The gahment here just knows how to have trial runs for studies and after seeing what infrastructure is needed, they cop out.

The other story I heard is their Govt give-in to the transportation companies by subsidying the car replacement as social costing. I doubt such things would happen here. Where got free things in Singapore. You want LPG Taxi, prepare to see increase in Taxi fares and taxes.

Gahment pay more money to protect environment in SG? Forget it! Makes you wonder if this gahment is really committed to environmental issues. Actually NOT! Only committed to money issues.
