ATF Flush

Hi bros,

 

My car to coming to 60000km soon but have yet to change or flush the ATF. Thinking of doing it at Stamford for $80. Any brothers here have done it at stamford before? Are they using mineral or syn oil ?

I did it there b4 but they use caltex (mineral) dexron atf.

 

Didn't find it very smooth & about 1 year later, my auto box have problems.

 

Cost me about $2K to solve.

 

I now flush at KATC & use RP synthetic atf, which I feel is smoother.

 

If u got $$$, can use Mobil Synthetic ATF but is more ex than RP.

 

For flushing u need about 18 lit to get it clean.

Diaqueen is different from Dexron.

 

D.queen is mainly for mitsubishi.

 

Weather mineral of synthetic, it will state on the packaging.

Did mine at Stamford tyres, now having promotion till 28th Feb 05. Normal $120, now $100.

Normally the labour is $50 & the rest depends on the amount & type of your ATF.

 

If I bring my own ATF, KATC charge me $50 for the labour charge.

 

70K km is already over the recommended OCI.

 

Remember the dirtier the oil, the more oil u will need to use during the flush.

 

I use RP Max, synthetic Dexron III ATF. Costs about $9 per qt. Average I use 18 Qts per flush. I do a flush every 50K km. (10K km before due) as I think it's cheap insuarance for my auto box.

 

If u use Diaqueen, check around if they have a synthetic ATF, although I never heard of it yet. Or better still, check with KATC if they have synthetic Diaqueen ATF & how much is it.

What ATF do ST use???

 

The last time I had mine flushed there ( Also a promotion. Seems they always have promotion ) they used Caltex Mineral ATF which I found not so good for my autobox. The shifts were quite jerky & some time after my autobox developed some problems.

 

I prefer to use a synthetic ATF as the autobox gets very hot at times & only synthetic oils can withstand these high temp without breaking down.

Mobil syn ATF usually don't get glowing reviews. Heavy lubes from RP and Redline are the best available. Especially RP with the bang-for-buck factor.

As I am driving a Hyundai, they told me the ATF if from Mitsubishi and it is siutable for Hyunai and Mit...should be diaqueen SP III ATF.

OK. So then u can check with the w/s where u intend to do the flush & ask them if they have Synthetic Diaqueen SP III ATF. Did u check your Owner's Manual to confirm???

 

Or maybe u can source for it on your own & bring the required amount ( that's the tricky part knowing how much to buy) & they only charge for labour.

 

Funny thing is I used to drive a hyundai excel & it used Dexron ATF ( as stated in the owner's manual). I wonder why now.

Oh ok. I actually considered Mobil Syn ATF b4 as I thought it was one of the best around (It's made in USA) but used RP (Also made in USA) as it's also very good and has the advantage of a better bang for the buck.

 

Mobil costs about $16/Lit & RP is $9/Qt. So with 18 to 20 liters, I would save about $140 per flush.

Redline is very good. Most of the fellas with souped up rides use Redline LSD oil. Very highly recommended if you need more than 100lbs on the Timken test. The price also . If I got the mony, between M1 and Redline, I will choose Redline

Went down to Stamford for ATF flush two days back,

told them that I wanted a flush but the

stupid mech (china man) did not check propely.

He just realised the plug and let go all the oil

without using the machine !

 

So I made alot of noise, end up they just pour in 2 more litre of

clean oil for it to drian off. And top up what is required.

 

Was thinking of doing another flush the next 20000km will

it be ok?

If u r refering to the flush at ST, no.

 

They just do a flush with the machine. No filter change.

 

For $80, I dunno how they count but if the labour is $50, then the oil is only about $30 for about 18 liters.

 

It's very cheap. Maybe that's why I tried it last time but some time later my autobox got problems which cost me $2K to repair.

 

Now I only use my own trusted oil (RP) for the flush. KATC also had some there last time I was there, so I guess I was very lucky. Did not have to buy my own.

 

Just let them flush & they charge me according to what they used. I told them I only pay them the same price I get from RP wholeseller, so I don't lose anything.

 

They quite flexible with me, I asked for a couple of Qts of RP ATF free, just in case I need to top up later. Now I use it to change my power steering fluid.

 

If you go to KATC Woodlands, speak to Albert. Some of the young mechanics very GREEN, so Albert know that i only want an experienced mech to do my car.
