Calfskin Neutral Newbie March 9, 2005 Share March 9, 2005 Hi folks, Just collected my new Lancer last week. Couldn't be any happier. One problem I experience after washing the car is that it's difficult to totally get rid of all the water on the exterior, as leaving it partially dry will leave unsightly watermarks. I've tried using Mr Clean synthetic chamois cloth, and found the experience horrible. Don't ever use it to dry your car. Does not absorb water at all, and leaves a trail of yellow lint all over the car. You can spend an hour wiping it and the condition is the same as if you've just started. Stay away from it. Then again @ $2.80, I should have known better. Saw a brand named Turtle Wax special super absorbent cloth that comes in a nice tub, but it costs around $15! A bit pricey i think, but if it gets the job done in half the time, it might be worth it. Any other methods/cloths that work? Any advice is appreciated. thanks in advance! ↡ Advertisement

Jamesgetz 4th Gear March 9, 2005 Share March 9, 2005 the best solution may sometimes be the cheapest... u can buy 100% cotton , white towels from neighbourhood hardware shops. costs about $1 per piece and even cheaper in bulk. go for those with 100% cotton as they r v soft and r perfectly fine for drying and polishing. they look like the white cloths used in hair salons. apart from the softness, the 'furiness' of the cloth helps to remove any dirt which your washing has missed. also the white colour also makes any dirt very visible, as compared to the brown/cream colour of chamois note: make sure u cut off the tags which are sometimes sewn onto the cloth as the tags can be abrasive

Avenso Neutral Newbie March 9, 2005 Share March 9, 2005 Hi, The best drying cloth will be the synthetic chamois that comes in a plastic cylindrical container. Years ago I bought the Kanebo sports towel cheap at Yaohan IMM. Used some for car wash and others as travelling towel. Superb stuff and still in use today. There was also Kanebo synthetic chamois in a yellow cylindrical container for car use. Same stuff as the sports towel but different colour. However can't find any today. Now the same stuff can be found under Aio (or something like that) brand. Recommended to a friend and he likes it. Available at Mohd. Mustaffa (2nd level car accessories section) in 2 sizes. Get the larger size at almost $16. Will last you a few years. You will like it. It is the best.
Steelblue Neutral Newbie March 9, 2005 Share March 9, 2005 My dad bought the Kanebo more than 10 years ago and that was one good synthetic chamois, we gave it to my sis when we bought a replacement AION (Kanebo changed the company name to AION -I read that somewhere). The new version is more rubbery and grabby, it doesn't perform as well as the old Kanebo, it leaves streaks... you are better off with Autoglym's chamois or wwmf (imho)
Avenso Neutral Newbie March 9, 2005 Share March 9, 2005 Hi Steelblue, Thanks for the info on name change of Kanebo to AION, and the performance difference. Now I have to hold on tight to the existing Kanebos I have.
Jenn Neutral Newbie March 29, 2005 Share March 29, 2005 I use a 3 days old magic towel by turtle wax inc bought from IMM Giant. It is good with absorbing water but I am wondering will it cause hairline scratches in the long run? Anyone knows?
Tien Neutral Newbie March 29, 2005 Share March 29, 2005 so long you dont use the towel dry and that you keep the towel very clean, you shouldnt get hairline scratches. of course, NO hairline scratch is near to impossible. so try to wipe in straight lines in a single direction. this way, even if you do get scratches (which i can gaurantee you would, eventually), the scratches wont be so obvious. wax your car once awhile and that should help in masking those fine scratches. Kax2 Neutral Newbie March 29, 2005 Share March 29, 2005 Use Aion synthetic or leather chamois. Don't go for te cheap type as it will leave some orange hair fibre from the cloth on your car after drying.
Jenn Neutral Newbie March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 Thanks for you advice, my worries are almost gone now. By the way, I have made an appointment with ULTRASHIELD ($280 charges) in early April. I think they should include wax my car. Question: Do you think brand new car should go for Ultrashield? I know many new cars owners go for GLARE (Groomswork); just that GLARE is too ex for me ($400 over).
Kaiserdome 1st Gear March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 ya lor...orange fibre is damn irritating and hassle to wipe off so avoid cheap cloth at all cost (although it cost lot less )
Astina77 Neutral Newbie March 31, 2005 Share March 31, 2005 I'm using AutoGlym one. The best i could find around. Previously, using the one bought from petrol kiosk one. The one with the "elephant" in front. Damn lousy one. Leaves those "hair" all aroud my black CAR~~
