Kelpie 2nd Gear March 23, 2005 Share March 23, 2005 1. I thought new car smell toxicating? I can't wait to get rid of it. I observed that some of the clip-on air refreshers were made of strong chemical. If there is leakage or you accidently trip them on your dashboard, they may "melt" your plastic and left a trail. I don't use air-refresher at all after this experience. IMHO if the car is clean and tidy, leather seats are well-maintained and air-con is cleansed regularly, there should be no odour. 2. So do you guys use air-refresher and which are the brands? Regards,
Lanceteo Neutral Newbie March 23, 2005 Share March 23, 2005 the leakage part has never happened to me i am jus using the normal common one that is fixed onto the blades of the air con in the car. works fine for me. AMBI-PUR CAR AIR FRESHENER i duno not too sure if thats the name yeap.
Kelpie 2nd Gear March 23, 2005 Share March 23, 2005 (edited) Alright man! thats the brand that "melts" my console plastic. You can try putting the chemical and rub it against the console plastic and leave it overnight. You will not be able to remove the mark covered by the chemical. Kax2 Neutral Newbie March 29, 2005 Share March 29, 2005 Thought that new car smell is leather smell. Smells the same as my new leather sofa. Change your leather seat ?
Apollo 1st Gear March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 nope.. the smell of new car is actually the smell of volatiles emitted fr the plastic material which has not fully UV stablized. depending on it's content, it may contain Hydrogen Choloride (HCl) or Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN)to certain extent, ie is still toxic for ur health. Kelpie 2nd Gear March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 1. Yes, many don't know that some air refresher contain harmful chemical. In fact, good air refresher with harmless content is actually quite expensive. 2. Anyone know which air refresher is harmless and toxic free? Adrianli Hypersonic March 31, 2005 Share March 31, 2005 I use those cheap ones S$1 for 2 type. Its in a small container like jelly type. Last for abt 3 weeks then change. I use ambi pur b4. Last for abt a month then must change liao. Moreover it cost S$5+ for a refiller!!! Therefore those cheap air fresher still better. S$5 can buy 10 cans!!! In JB, I think its S$1 for 3!!! Go n do ur maths then u will know whether its worth it!!!
Kelpie 2nd Gear March 31, 2005 Share March 31, 2005 Hi there, I don't use air refresher now but invested on air ionizer. I also believe in keeping car interior clean and tidy to keep the odour at bay. Cars can actually do without air refresher. Air refresher only mask the odour but don't kill harmful bacteria that cause the odour. Regards,
