I'm driving a vintage 99'Atos GLSA

The fan-Belt always squeal - especially

when the weather is cold/wet

or when the engine is cold.

My mechanic - Rayspeed at Pioneer Circus - had

adjusted the belt tension numerous times,

but the problem still recurr.

Now the mechanic says, "

its pretty normal due to the moisture. after the engine runs for a while, the noise will be gone. no need to specially change the fan belt. its the same for my lancer too. mech says dun waste money to change now. change when it has reach end of shelf life, say ard 100-120k mileage.

Good Day,

Belt Dressing works - only for a short while,

and the sound comes back after a couple of days.

What exactly causes the Belt to squeal ?

Issit because,

1. Belt too tight,

or

2, Belt not tight enough ?

Or issit the bearings (but Mechanic says Bearings OK)

Where can I go to buy cheapest Atos spares ?

The rear Left Door - outside handle broke, this evening.

I suspect that the plastics fot this model does turn

brittle - after a couple of years

Any workshop in the West / Alexandra - specialising in the Atos ?

Thanks again for Your Advice,

Cheers

Remove the v-belt,throw them away, clean up the pulley v-grove with emery cloth. Get OEM replacement v belt. Do not over tension the belt ( need working exprience to get the feel )and apply some silicon grease onto the v-grove.

Happy driving !!

Probably your previous belts got so worn and harden that the belt dressing cannot safe it.tongue.gif If you maintain the belt regulary, the belt life would last longer.nod.gif

I understand that belt dressing or silicon can be absorbed by rubber so as to keep the rubber 'moisturise' and maintain its tension longer. But if the rubber surface (the belt internal, touching the pulley) had harden or glazed from improper tension, then cannot absorb the belt dressing and silicon anymore.

my old accent also has this sound.. applying grease will help a little.. but it'll still sqeak. [:|] had to live with that problem until it got scrapped..

you can try changing the belt though.. it might work..

Good Day,

Thanks for the advice.

On a related subject,

what would the service intervals be for 70,000km odo ?

Timing Belt change intervals?

ATF Change intervals?

etc,..?

Are there any Atos (vintage 99' )Owners out there in this forum - ever tried going up to Malaysia to use the Inokom Atos Parts (issit really much cheaper??) ?

I am considering using this Atos for another 10 years' after the COE expires in 2009.

Inspite of the belt noise, and the slightly inferior plastics,

I am very happy with the car, cos it is easy to drive/park/squeeze/has a high seating position,...

and I am looking to re-establish a good relationship with a mechanic - who can service this car well, for the long term.

thanks
