Well, since poster sleeping, can I ask a question? I just installed a set of component speakers (Infinity Reference 6000cs) in my ride. The tweeter emits a hissing sound especially when I turn up the volume. It is quite irritating but the mechanic said that this is normal for tweeters. I just find it strange. How can a hissing sound when playing CD be normal since it irritates the listener? Anyone care to comment?

If you're looking for good bass without the use of subwoofer, your best bet would be to install a set of good component in front & 6x9" behind.

Go for 3 way component (with 7 or 8" bass driver) if space & budget allows.

Heard Boston Acoustics & Addzest 6x9", pretty solid bass. [;)]

What is your objective? Going for SQ (sound quality) or normal listening?

For normal listening, you can get pretty decent gear for a few hundrew $.

For SQ, the sky's the limit [sweatdrop] .

You have an amplifier installed? If so, you can turn it to the minimum until no hissing is heard. If you want to crank up the volume, use the HU's control instead.

Else if all fails, have to go back to installer and ask him to rewire again.

No, didn't have an amp installed. You think it is wiring problem? By the way, I am thinking of installing an amp. What is the purpose of having the amp? Better sound quality? louder? or what? (sorry I am quite new to ICE)

Actually, I'm also a newbie myself. I just converted to active setup, but seems like the staging runs all over the place. Dunno correct or not.

To my knowledge, the standard HU provides very low power (mine is only 50Wx4) to the speakers. Using an amplifier will boost that power dramatically. In essense, with the boost, even at low volume, you can also hear the music clearly. Any gurus, please correct me if I'm wrong. tongue.gif

You running ACTIVE directly from head unit?

When i switched to active, staging opened dramatically and immensely.

Couldnt believe my ears, that speakers so small could make everything sound so big

Whats your setup like?

No lar,

I run through the speakers through a Lanzar 4-ch 1000W amp from a Pioneer 9400 HU. The sound is much clearer and staging more defined. All the tweeter, midbass, and sub sounds are more mixed together. Yah, it makes quite a difference.

But then dunno why, the singer like sometimes go left, sometimes right. Thought it might be due to the TA as when i switch that off, the image is quite focused. Have u encountered this before?

Hi bro,

A little advise...do not install an amp until you get the hissing sound resolved first. [;)]
