Leather Maintenance

Hi guys,

 

Any advice on how to take proper care of leather seats? Wad are the steps in cleaning and treating them?

 

- wipe with warm water?

- apply leather cream?

 

which leather cream is good and value for money? How often do you have to apply the cream?

Well, what you said.

 

Give your leather seats a wipedown with a damp cloth (no need warm water) every week or so when your do your car wash.

 

Once a quarter or so, use a leather cleaning product and leather conditioner. Just follow instructions on the bottle. I dunno which leather conditioner is good, but I hear that Mother's is quite recommended. I personally use Meguiar's Gold Class and it's so-so lah; smells funny.

ya, just wipe the leather (whenever you wash your car) should be good enough unless you have some really nasty stains like blood, paint, spilled oil, coffee, lipstick marks, ink from pen... etc

 

to protect the leather, use pledge. it helps to seal in the oil in leather. spray one and wipe off, very easy to use. gives a nice lemon smell too.

 

once awhile... or a long while if you r like me, use leather conditioner to restore some oil (and hence softness and shine) into leather.

i actually find that wiping leather with water alone will dry the leather after a while. the creases/cracks become more obvious, the colour fades a little and the sheen is lost much more quickly.

 

so now, i just vacuum the dirt away whenever i wash the car, followed by leather conditioner once every 6-8weeks.

Can the leather cleaning product n conditioner be suitable for half leather?? So far I'm using 3M n smell quite nice n can be used on both synthetic n geniune n hv cleaning n protection properties.... how good I dunno...

i often apply leathe conditioner nut the leather seems to crack at certain area....why hur/.....haha

Maybe that particular area got lots of abrasive rubbing.

I have no idea. But my leather protector/conditioner (Meguiar's Gold Class) specifically states do not use on suede. So I guess it shouldn't harm other types of fabrics. However, given that leather conditioner usually replenishes the natural oils of leather, even if it doesn't harm other fabrics it may be useless to them anyway. So just use it on the leather bits of half-leather seats I guess.

wat i usually do:

1. wipe with a damp cloth

2. open all doors for airing to let the leather dry faster

3. apply Meg's gold class leather conditioner (preferably at night when u have parked your car to go home and zZZZ so that the leather conditioner won't get rubbed off by your butt, hands. )

Hey looks like Meguair's Gold Class leather condn quite popular after all. But it smells a little strange doesn't it? I keep reading about others saying how good their leather condns smell. I just went with Meg's coz Meg's sounds reliable enough. Heh.

Well for me I used autoglym leather care which is quite good. How I maintain my leather seat is I would pour the cream on my hand and run it on the seats and let it settle for sometime before using a clean cotton cloth and wipe off the excess cream away. So far so good.

I regretted having leather. With fabric, you can wash the stains off quite easily and if required, you also can add on a cover

Yes, i would agree on the AutoGlym Leather Care. It keeps the leather soft and moistured. So far, i have applied it once a month.

 

One thing i like about the AutoGlym is that it's not oily and messy once the cream is dried up so you won't get that oily feeling.

 

Another which i dislike is the smell of the product. Can't really discribe the smell but it's
