Niteblu Neutral Newbie May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 Hi all. I am hoping to tap on the wisdom of modders in this forum. So any advice is welcome! I have a Black '99 MKII ford Mondeo. i) What's are the best (& most cost effective) ways to get better performance from my '99 MKII Mondeo? Short of installing a new engine. ii) I've done a couple of minor things. like K&N drop-in fiter, volt stabilizer, grounding cables. What else could I do? iii) How about bolt-on turbos? Are they available n do they work? How about piggy ECUs? Thanks in advance for all your advice. Cheers ↡ Advertisement
Osiris 1st Gear May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 Better Performance in terms of? Hp? Fuel efficiency? Handling? what u have done in ii) does not improve performance. VS and grounding help electrical circuitry only. K&N filter imho has longer lifespan that's all. I drop in liao no diff
Lanceteo Neutral Newbie May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 brother u tried z-stab? i was thinking of trying le. but was wondering will it be better dan a voltage stabalizer and fuel magnets. to compare the both which is betteR?

Osiris 1st Gear May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 Fuel magnets definitely no no - bluff people one imho. Noe a friend put EPS magnet, 1st tank say better FC. Monitor for 3 months he say no diff. Yes, thinking of z-stab but got good and bad review, can't tell if there's any truth in the product. The good review sometime hard to trust...i think it's psychological. Just like K&N filter - say put liao feel more power. I feel nothing... Compare to a strutbar, put liao , cornering can feel the difference. haven't done grounding even cos the sunny already factory grounded.
Linus Clutched May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 (edited) u shld try the mods urself and feel any diff in ur car. i can pass u some magnets to try. i have done up magnets, volt stab, K&N filter, grounding and change to platinium spark plugs. each does help abit in getting better pickup and smoother engine response, not so much better FC tho. u can see more diff with magnets in a auto car, helps to pickup faster. my 2 cents Edited May 10, 2005 by Linus
Niteblu Neutral Newbie May 10, 2005 Author Share May 10, 2005 I'm looking for HP gain :) Haven't dyno'd my current setup, but prob a good idea to do it sometime. know how much it costs? Haha... I'll go brick shopping this evening. Most of my current "mods" I know, are really just electrical improvements. installed on a "can't hurt" basis. Haven't tried Z-stab. I know there're alot of faddish type products out there (e68, buddyclub a/c, broquet etc) but I'm a bit cynical. maybe e68 might work. I know things like a bolt on turbocharger might work. (are those things legal? if so where can one get one done, for how much?

Linus Clutched May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 try n see. not so much on the FC side. pickup def is much faster. can feel the RPM changes quicker. lend u one set to try... u go find out where is ur fuel in-line cable at ur engine bay. ie.. the one going in to fuel injector. Wrxblue 1st Gear May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 (edited) the best bet would be: 1) improve your air intake by probably considering a cold air intake(ensure the hot air from engine compartment is blocked) 2) get a set of good spark plugs and ignition cables to provide better 'firing' power!!! 3) get yourself a new exhaust system if you can, get the extractor(exhaust manifold) too. 4) give your engine a new life by changing all the fluids in the engine!!! forget about all those what magnets, voltage stabilizers etc...if you are not consuming alot of electricity ie:using amps etc..they are reductant!!! still the best power enhancer would be renewing the wear and tear parts and cleaning of all parts like injectors, etc since your car is already like 6years old..alot of of parts are due for replacement!!! do that first....before spending money on aftermarket mods...maybe your 'lost' of power come from old and weary parts!!! If you engine is quite worn, eg: high mileage, you can consider doing an overhaul of your engine to give it a new life!!! if you are considering handling improvement, then you can get your car lowered with a set of suitable suspension kit and a good set of tyres and correct wheel alignment!!! Niteblu Neutral Newbie May 10, 2005 Author Share May 10, 2005 Ultimately. no magic pill right? Either up engine capacity, or force induction? So should I go buy a bolt-on turbo charger? can I even buy one. (Are they legal?)
Wrxblue 1st Gear May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 there is no easy way to just get a bolt on turbocharger!!! unless your engine originally comes with one..it will be illegal!!! and getting an aftermarket one..without the proper setup...you will have a chance to 'blow-up' your engine!!! anyway, with all the bolt on turbo charger parts and accessories..it will probably cost you 4-5K...or even more!! then maybe considering changing car is a viable idea!! Gadgeter 2nd Gear May 10, 2005 Share May 10, 2005 yo Blue, what do you suggest. When I switch on my A/C and headlight at night. Realised my A/C is drawing a lot of current. On A/C + headlight = 12.2~12.5V On headlight = 13.6V What do you think can be done to improve? ↡ Advertisement
