hi to all optra owners. i been considering to get either a optra or a toyota altis. i read through this forum and roughly know the fc values for a optra but there are still some question i like to ask.

hope optra owners can help me answer my questions.

i went to show room and test drive the car, good power but can feel the weight of the car. but forget to check out some fine details of this car.

1)for this optra, what audio unit does it comes with? does it support cdr/cdrw disc?

2)where are the speakers located? at the 4 doors or behind the rear passenger hear rest there?

3)what tyres does it comes with?

thanks

1) Blaupunkt Atlanta CD34. Support cdr/cdrw but not mp3 playback.

2)located at all 4 doors, front tweeter included, rear tweeter optional.

3)last time was yoko S306 i think...

Michelin,

For the HU, if you try hard enough, you will be able to get a mp3 player from the SE.

But what I would advise is, ask the SE to deduct the $$ for the HU and go get a better one outside.

Hee hee Hee.....

Green horn on the MP3 but what's the difference? I burn the MP3 song to CDR and still can play. So why must state MP3. [dizzy]

Those are converted to read by player and at most one disc (700mb) should contain less then 15 (depends on size)..

those state can play mp3, can burn mp3s to cdr as data format, that means you can at least burn 100+mp3s into the disc and play on the mp3 HU...

thats what i know..

MP3 is audio format.

CD-R/RW is the type of disc used.

Those that normal CD player can play (1 disc has like 16-20 songs, etc) are what we call CD Audio disc.

They are of high quality, but occupies lots of data-space.

For MP3, it is compressed, thus the same CD-R or RW disc, can store easily 60 to 100+ songs, depending on the quality you specify the compression rate to be.

Turbocharged

It is still yoko tire, I just brought one. Atis is at least $6k more and basically it is a newer type of engine with better FC.

Style? well if you like to see the same car around you [rolleyes]

Hi Michelin

Drive an optra and it feels and is CONTI. Drive an Altis and feels like a sheep (note advertisment). [rifle]

I know of many Altis owners wanting to change to Chevy Optra. If FC is your main concern, then stick to Altis but then again, it all depends on what kind of driver you are also....

Me also check and pump in use tyres once a month. Can pump spare tyre with higher pressure say 40psi so that it can last longer.

alamak our brother Nerd_on_wheels said it is kumho tyre and you said it is yoko tyre. oh the fact is that both of you are driving optra but different model. maybe 1 of you is on premium model and the other is not?

Hope to welcome you to the Optra Chevy Club soon :)

Whatever it is, u need to test drive both and hands on your heart and see which one has more "fate" with you...only you have the answer [drivingcar]

I think Aveo, Optra 5 and Optra Wagon (Made In Korea) are using Kumho tyre and Optra (Made In Thailand) is using Yoko tyre. Premium and no-premium should be using the same type of tyre.

My stock tyre is Yoko, I am driving Optra.

Hi Mate !

the Optra and Altis are two very different car !

The Altis, like it predecessor, are all Corolla platform and very Japanese feel. It would not give you the solid/stable feel of an Optra. The engine of the Altis, on the other hand is probably more advanced than that of the Optra given it's VVTI and stuff. The Optra can only offer a stable engine power delivery with it VGIS technology ( process of lenthening/shortenting the air intake ).

The Optra feels positively Continental both in handling and styling. The engine is powerful enough for most driver's demand except for the extremist ! The only complaint acknowledged by owner, including myself, is the fuel consumption. For my manual, I get about 11 km per litre hauling this heavy babe around. Fuel cost aside, the ride is great, the handling excellent for the price and the feel/ambient tremendous ! No regrets buying the Optra !

Just compare the rear boot area....the way the spare wheel is stored, the Optra outshine the Altis. The latter just offer a piece of cardboard with a thin carpet over the wheel where as the Optra provides a professional made, dampened moulded cover over the wheel. Need I say more ?

As for your questions :

1. The radio I got in my car is the original double DIN 5 disc changer. Yes, it does support CDR/CDRW.....hey, I think most players nowadays do !

2. There are six speakers actually, four normal speakers on the doors and two tweeters on the front door. THere is a package available from Stars where they will install two additional tweeters on the rear doors. There are provision for them there !

3. I believe now, all the vehicles comes with the standard Yokohama 185/65/R14 tires ( Made in Phillipines ) and if you buy the Korean Optra5 or Stationwagon, it would come with the same size wheel but the tires are from Korea....KUMHO..I think !

Anyway, hope you make a good decision for yourself. Remember, once made, it would be a loose loose situation if you ever think of changing !

Cheers

Hi,

Wish to chip in my thoughts on Optra vs Altis.

Me actually driving an Aveo but sent him for parts replacement after some table banging [sweatdrop] and got an Optra as a courtesy car.

Used to drive an Altis due to an accident.

So I guess I've tried both so to speak.

Altis

+ve

1. big and spacious

2. digital air con

3. high on equipment level

4. large and comfortable seats

5. good workmanship

6. nice dashboard layout

-ve

a. puny sound (made me so sick never to turn it on after 10 mins of endurance session)

b. thin metal especially the boot. Reminds me of Milo tin

c. steering wheel too big

d. steering wheel too soft

e. higher to lower gear change, especially when climbing a slope, jerks quite hard

f. common car

Optra

+ve

1. very solid feel

2. nice steering wheel

3. decent sound system

4. comfortable seats albeit smaller then Altis's

5. powerful enough to pick up and for overtaking

6. spacious interior

7. good sound insulation

8. nice auto gear layout

9. quiet air con

-ve

a. dials look cheapo

b. steering wheel a little too heavy (not really a comprain though)

c. accelerator too heavy

d. brakes too soft

e. no digital air con

My wife really likes the Optra too and said that if we've waited a little longer for the price to drop, she'd go for it liao... Hmmm...
